Caleb Williams is honing his skills to become the first Chicago Bears quarterback to throw 4000+ yards while maintaining a 70% pass accuracy. Footage from the Bears’ training camp tells a different story.

Williams and the entire Bears QB room lined up for an accuracy drill on Saturday (August 2). Their goal was simple: hit the three targets on the net.

Last season, Williams completed 62.5% of his passes and threw just 6 interceptions, while his peer, Bo Nix, had 12 at Denver. All three of the 23-year-old’s throws were duds. He failed to score any points.

Cameras caught Caleb Williams upset with his performance before leaving the drill to third-year backup Tyson Bagent to try.

Well, the Bears fans don’t need to fret too much over a few missed passes. Bears beat writer Larry Mayer, in his recent report, discussed Williams excelling in other areas—two-minute drills.

The great ones, they want the ball in their hand, and you can tell Caleb wants the ball in his hand in those moments. Two minute, is a drill where you can rely on guts and instincts, your past training, and who’s a competitor. There are certain guys when the lights turn on, that switch just flips, and he’s got that switch where he can turn it on, and I can’t wait to watch it at Soldier Field and all over the league this year.

Case Keenum, veteran quarterback, told Mayer

Keenum’s eventful 13 years in the NFL make him the perfect candidate to take care of his younger teammates. Aside from Williams, Bagent, and Keenum, the Bears also have a fourth quarterback, Austin Reed, a graduate of Western Kentucky.

Caleb Williams received a vote of confidence from Tom Brady

Tom Brady is the living embodiment of the fact that hard work always pays off. Despite representing Michigan in college, Brady wasn’t on the radar of NFL teams. He was drafted in the sixth round by the New England Patriots.

An injury to Drew Bledsoe gave Brady the chance to be the starter for the Patriots. Brady made the position his own and lifted six Lombardi Trophies for Boston and later one more for Tampa Bay.

Brady believes Williams possesses all the necessary tools to be successful in the NFL. The appointment of Ben Johnson as the head coach was a smart move from the Bears’ brass. Johnson should have a similar impact on Williams as he had with Jared Goff in Detroit.

[Caleb] does a lot of things really well. I think Ben’s gonna help him a lot. It’s a great offensive system he’ll be in. Now it’s about them really getting on the same page and really getting in tune with Caleb’s strengths and weaknesses and really try to obviously mitigate the weaknesses and propagate the strengths.

General manager Ryan Poles brought in new players to help Williams. He signed Joe Thuney, Drew Dalman, and Jonah Jackson to protect Williams, who was sacked an NFL record 68 times during his rookie season.

Poles further signed wide receivers Olamide Zaccheaus and Devin Duvernay, defensive lineman Grady Jarrett, and running back Travis Homer.

The Bears start the 2025 season against their arch nemesis, the Minnesota Vikings.
