Caleb Williams takes unnecessary shots at Sam Darnold after Bears’ frustrating OT loss to Vikings

The Chicago Bears have been in a slump with four straight losses, two of which were embarrassing as the offense could not get going. Going up against Sam Darnold and the vaunted Minnesota Vikings defense, Caleb Williams and his offense were not going to have it easy.
That defense has made opposing quarterbacks look uneasy. They continued to do that against the rookie quarterback, as he could not throw a touchdown pass in the first three quarters. With the Minnesota Vikings up two scores, the look on Bears fans’ faces said it all.
But then Caleb Williams drove down the field and then connected with DJ Moore for a touchdown to halve the deficit. On his next drive, he again threw a touchdown and completed the two-point conversion. An onside kick recovery later and the ball was back in Williams’ hands.
He ensured his team scored a field goal to tie and send it into overtime. Eventually the Bears lost to a Vikings field goal. But the fourth quarter performance from Williams suggested his No. 1 overall draft status was not a mistake. Reporters at the post-game press conference asked him what Vikings HC Kevin O’Connell told him after the game.

The 23-year-old seemingly praised the opposing head coach for doing a great job despite having to rely on backup Sam Darnold, suggesting that Darnold was playing well despite not being good enough to start.
Caleb Williams’ late game heroics not enough for Bears
That reference to Sam Darnold could also be a shot at his own coaching staff for not doing their best. HC Matt Eberflus is already on the hot seat and forced an OC change just a while ago. That new OC helped Williams play at an elite level in that fourth quarter blitz.
However, it may be a tad too late for the franchise. They had spent a lot of money this past offseason to load the team for a playoff push. However, they stand at 4-7 and are bottom of the NFC North. To make matters worse, they will face a series of playoff bound teams until the end of the season.
They have already lost to division rivals, the Vikings and the Green Bay Packers once. They will play both of them again along with the league leading Detroit Lions twice. The other two are against the San Francisco 49ers and the Seattle Seahawks. With their playoff hopes on the line, those game will be hard too.
It is possible that the Chicago Bears could lose all their remaining games. That would be a disastrous return for all their offseason moves. To make matters worse, they will have next to no cap space next season to make any necessary improvements.
