In his second year in the NFL, Caleb Williams essentially triumphed over those critics who labeled him as a potential bust after what was a trying first season with the Chicago Bears.

His electric late-game performances were one of the major reasons for his team’s success this season, as they upended early-season predictions to power their way to the postseason.

If not for an overtime interception during the Divisional Round, Williams’ late-game heroics might have again been the reason for the Bears’ stunning turnaround under first-year head coach Ben Johnson.

It seems some are still not ready to accept that the USC star had a season to remember, with Cincinnati Bengals’ superstar wideout Ja’Marr Chase being one of them.

Caleb Daniels… Who is Caleb Daniels? I don’t know what his first name is. What’s the quarterback for the Bears?

Ja’Marr Chase said on The Pat McAfee Show

As soon as the two-time 1st-team All-Pro, who managed to score a touchdown off an interception from Shedeur Sanders in the Pro Bowl games, was trying to be slick initially, he constantly said the name Caleb Daniels.

Host Pat McAfee and the rest of the cast went along with it, as they knew he was mixing up Caleb Williams‘ and Jayden Daniels‘ names. Only when fellow Bengals wideout Tee Higgins intervened to ask who this player was did Chase realize he got the name wrong.

Caleb Williams claps back at Ja’Marr Chase

This clip from The Pat McAfee Show went viral after a few NFL news aggregators reposted it with context. Soon, it caught Caleb Williams’ attention, who decided to repost the clip on his X timeline.

After that, he also dug up and found a graphic that circulated on the same social media platform on November 2nd. That graphic contains Ja’Marr Chase’s infamous quote after the game between his Cincinnati Bengals and Williams’ Chicago Bears.

He was frustrated that his team’s defense could not finish the job after mounting a stunning comeback to take a one-point lead with just 50 seconds left on the clock.

But Caleb Williams only needed that much time to not only throw a 58-yard touchdown pass to Colston Loveland, but also tried to put the game away for good with a two-point conversion, which eventually failed.

This was the 2024 first overall pick’s clap back at Ja’Marr Chase with a reminder that the WR should know his name. The Bears QB upended them in the end with his trademark clutch performance.

Caleb Williams trashes Dave Portnoy’s changing narrative

With the above retort to Ja’Marr Chase, Caleb Williams probably understands that no matter what he does, there will be people who still believe he is a bust, but may be changing their opinion.

One such person is Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy. The avid Massachusetts sports fan roots for the New England Patriots and all other major sports franchises operating in the state.

During an interview with CHGO Bears, he was asked to choose between Drake Maye and Williams. After stating that he would obviously choose the former, he said this:

I thought he was going to be a bust. I don’t anymore. So I think he’s going to be a good quarterback. He impressed me.

Dave Portnoy replied

He went on to say that the Bears quarterback is still not polished enough as he does throw some interceptions. But still admitted that Caleb Williams is a good quarterback and that he was rooting for him.

However, the DC native decided to repost a fan’s reply to this clip, where he wrote that he did not care about Portnoy’s changing narrative.
