Call of Duty Modern Warfare II is set to release soon, and fans could not be more hyped about the upcoming title. However, fans are also apprehensive of the hackers and cheaters who might make their way into the game, as has been common with many Call of Duty titles so far. In an attempt to reduce the number of cheaters and hackers in the game, Activision has introduced a system of phone number verification into the game.

The move can be viewed as a step in the right direction for the game title, since it has proven to be effective in other titles such as Overwatch 2.

Cheaters and hackers have been a huge problem in the Call of Duty franchise for quite some time now. So much so, that big streamers like Dr DisRespect felt compelled to speak out about the issue. Now, Activision has begun taking the matter quite seriously, implementing many different methods to reduce the number of hackers and cheaters in the game. In the latest attempt to do so, the developers have introduced a phone number verification system, which will require users to verify their MWII account with their phone numbers as well.

According to this system, users can only verify one account with a specific phone number. Therefore, by implementing this system, Activision is trying to reduce the possibilities of cheaters and hackers creating multiple accounts in the game after being banned.

This move by Activision mirrors that of Blizzard with Overwatch 2, which was released a week ago on October 4. Blizzard has also introduced a system of mobile phone number verification in order to be able to play the game. Players must have their mobile numbers synced to their Steam accounts in order to seamlessly play the Blizzard title. Similarly, after the release of MWII later this month, players can only access the game with Steam accounts that have their mobile numbers linked to it.
