Calvin Johnson admits Jayden Daniels-led Commanders now have a “scary” offense after Deebo Samuel’s inclusion

The Commanders nailed it by trading for Deebo Samuel, a perfect WR2 alongside Terry McLaurin and a versatile weapon for QB Jayden Daniels.

Jayden Daniels led the Washington Commanders to the divisional playoff game in his rookie season. It took the eventual Super Bowl champions, the Philadelphia Eagles, to stop the Commanders’ dominating run.

They are bookmakers’ favorites for a similar deep run in the postseason in 2025. On top of it, Daniels received a massive upgrade with the Commanders signing All-Pro wide receiver Deebo Samuel from the San Francisco 49ers.

Legendary wide receiver Calvin Johnson believes this was an amazing deal for the Commanders. Samuel’s inclusion made the team from the capital, one of the best in the NFC.

If Deebo [Samuel] comes into camp and is extremely fit going into this year, I don’t know what they can’t do. On offense, they have a scary offense. You’ve got two basically No. 1 receivers out there, just like [the Philadelphia Eagles] had this year.

Calvin Johnson told Kay Adams on “Up & Adams.”

Samuel’s 2024 season was shrouded with bad performances and injuries. He had 670 yards and three touchdowns before being shipped to Washington. The Commanders have a good and young core of players.

Besides Jayden Daniels, the Commanders boast Terry McLaurin, who caught 82 passes for 1096 yards and scored 13 touchdowns in 2024. It was McLaurin’s fifth consecutive 1000 receiving yard season in the NFL.

FOX analyst believes the addition of Deebo Samuel will make Jayden Daniels the best QB in NFL

Daniels exceeded expectations during his first year with the Commanders. The former Heisman Trophy winner made smart use of both his throwing prowess and his quick feet. He completed 3568 yards, 25 passing touchdowns, and nine interceptions, along with 148 carries for 891 yards and six rushing touchdowns.

Daniels rightfully bagged the Offensive Rookie of the Year award ahead of Raiders TE Brock Bowers and Jaguars WR Brian Thomas Jr. However, Daniels is set to have an even better second year now that the Commanders signed Samuel.

Ex-NFL player turned analyst Emmanuel Acho argued in the recent episode of Facility that Samuel provides Daniels with the ‘down guy’ that the Commanders lacked last year.

Jayden Daniels was not able to take any downs off last year because he did not have what I would suggest is a down-off guy. I can just get it to you and I can take a down off… I can throw you a tunnel screen, Deebo, down off, you’re in the backfield, I can give you a quick pitch, Deebo, down off.

Emmanuel Acho said

Acho made a good point. Daniels had to use his feet a lot compared to his counterparts because he did not have someone like Saquon Barkley, Jahmyr Gibbs, or Josh Jacobs in the backfield doing it for him.

The Commanders now have the option to use the jet sweep with Samuel on the team. The former South Carolina man is astute when used from the backfield, as he showed when paired with Brock Purdy at the 49ers.
