The Philadelphia Eagles will have a hard time replacing Jason Kelce at center. The team has relied on him since 2011 to play the key role of the ball snapper, a role he could not have executed better. He announced his retirement last month and created a void that is next to impossible to fill, the Eagles will now turn to Cam Jurgens to take his place.

Cameron Jurgens was drafted in the second round and 52nd overall pick of the 2022 NFL Draft by the Philadelphia Eagles. He now faces a monumental challenge as he has to fill the shoes of Jason Kelce. Despite the pressure, Jurgens remains unfazed. The team inaugurated its offseason program this week and in his first press conference for the 2024-25 season, Jurgens spoke to the media and addressed his mindset for taking on this new role.

While admitting the switch from right guard to center is “a little weird” and that he has made the mistake of visiting the wrong locker room in recent times, Jurgens assured fans that he will get in the groove and get the hang of his new role very soon.

At the end of the day, I just have to be myself. I'm not trying to be somebody's replacement or somebody's next person. I'm just trying to be myself and asking myself if I can be the best football player I can be, and wherever position they put me, that's what I'm going to do. I'm not worried about anything besides what I can control, and I think that's all I have to worry about at the end of the day.

Cam Jurgens was drafted to replace Jason Kelce

Since being drafted, Jurgens has been expected to replace Kelce once he decided to retire from the NFL. Despite circumstances dictating that he ought to fill Kelce’s shoes, Jurgens does not see it that way.

He is focused on attempting to be the best version of himself. He wants to make his own mark and play to the best of his capabilities irrespective of the position the Eagles decide to play him at.

The transition from right guard to center will be a bit challenging but he has plenty of time until the season gets underway. His mindset is perfect as rather than adding pressure on himself and stressing about having to fill a big void, he is prioritizing taking it one step at a time. It will be interesting to see how the Eagles fare with Jurgens at center, the team looks significantly different heading into the new league year, the question remains if this version of the Eagles will finally lead them to another Super Bowl victory.
