Cam Newton believes that players need to learn how to keep their image clean in the public space. To prove his point, the former NFL quarterback took a subtle dig at Chiefs receivers Rashee Rice and Kadarius Toney for being irresponsible role models.

Both Rice and Toney found themselves amidst trouble in the past few months. Rice was charged with aggravated assault after the SMU graduate totaled six cars on a Dallas highway. Even though there were no casualties, Rice ended up in jail.

Toney, on the other hand, went on a rant on Instagram against the Chiefs for falsifying his injury report. However, he later clarified that his message was for his former side New York Giants, and their fans.

In regards to this, Newton threw in some words of advice for troubled athletes like Rice and Ja Morant, who was seen pulling out a gun on Instagram Live. The former Carolina Panthers’ under center claimed there should always be someone looking after these troublemakers keeping them in check.

During the recent episode of his ‘4th and one’ podcast, Newton watched the viral video in which Dallas Mavericks Michael Finley stopped Luka Doncic from consuming beer in a public space. The 35-year-old asserted that this should be an example of handling someone’s image.

Ja Morant, Kadarius Toney, Rashee Rice, that's how you protect the bag. He [Michael Finley] has identified it, and said, 'Oh it's a lot going on right now, I got you, bro.' Subtle! this [ain't] for you to be like, 'Hell nah bro, we just won the Eastern [Western] Conference.' Everything's there for everybody to see, and that's an OG move… This is f**king image control.

Andy Reid breaks silence on an incident involving Rashee Rice during his college years

While studying at SMU, Rice and basketball player Kendrick Davis almost got into a lot of trouble. Reportedly, Davis was seeing Rice’s girlfriend. One (unspecified) day, Rice and some of his friends found Davis’ car and NBC Sports reported one of them fired a few rounds. No one was injured because the vehicle was empty.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid was asked about whether he was aware of the information before drafting Rice in 2023.

The way I’d leave it with you… is we knew enough to draft him, you know, and then we just went with the process and we, you know, we found that it was satisfactory for us.
