Considering how the last two seasons have unfolded for the New York Jets, it’s fair to say that the trade to acquire Aaron Rodgers from the Green Bay Packers ranks among the worst in recent history. Yet, Cam Newton remains optimistic that he still has at least one more good season worthy of MVP standards left in him.

The veteran quarterback’s stint with Green Gang has taken such a troubling turn that his future with the team as well as the league lies with a question mark. Amid the conversation of whether the Jets should keep Rodgers for another season, the former Carolina Panthers star advised the team not to let go of the four-time NFL MVP.

In the recent edition of ESPN’s First Take, Newton surprised everyone on the panel with his over-the-top optimism about Rodgers, while advocating for him to remain in New York.

I think Aaron Rodgers still has MVP-caliber football in him. If you give any quarterback enough opportunity, they’re going to put up points … I’m looking at a quarterback if you give him a top-15 defense let alone a top-10 defense, what will Aaron Rodgers be able to do, and that changes the whole dynamic.

Cam Newton claimed

After finishing a season at 7-10, the Jets couldn’t get a top draft pick in the Class of 2025, where the quality of quarterbacks is already in question. So, if they decide to trade up for a quarterback, the season’s success could still not be guaranteed and in doing so would require sacrificing draft capital needed for the team.

Cam Newton urges Jets to embrace Rex Ryan’s winning strategy under new coach Aaron Glenn

After exploring for several months, the Jets officially hired former Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn. However, the former All-Pro quarterback believes the team should follow the strategy implemented by former head coach Rex Ryan– whom the Jets chose to pass on while browsing for their head coach.

The only time the New York Jets had a post[season] was with Rex Ryan. They had that attitude, they had that grit. I think Aaron Glenn gives you that.

Similar to former head coach Robert Saleh, Glenn also has a proven success record in Detroit after he made the defense one of the most formidable in spite of players struggling with injuries. Now after joining New York, the new head coach has the big responsibility of improving the defense while strategizing for next season.
