Tua Tagovailoa and his Miami Dolphins have not won a game despite getting 3 opportunities so far, and that led former quarterback Cam Newton to question if the noise coming from the camp was necessary.
He first delved into how the Alabama star has been talking too much over the past year instead of keeping his head down and working on his game.
Then, after two late-game interceptions that cost them their last two games, Newton questioned why someone earning $53 million a year would do that, especially when he earns a lot more than many other good QBs.
Tagovailoa was asked for a reaction to these comments, and he, bizarrely, said that people who are just talking behind a camera do not know what it takes to be an NFL QB.
His comment clearly was misplaced, as it seems he did not realize that Newton is a former league MVP. Naturally, this reaction would become media fodder the following day, and First Take, which broadcasts early in the morning, took it up with Cam Newton in the studio.
Anybody can go 0-3… This Tua Tagovailoa that we have seen within the last 12 months is not something and someone that is indicative of what we have seen before. I used the reference as quiet Tua. Alabama Tua… When I see the situation that has taking place in Miami, it’s more Love Island drama than football.

The ESPN analyst reiterated that there was a time when Tua Tagovailoa was playing at a high level, and that is what Newton wants the Dolphins QB to do this season.
Cam Newton wants Tua Tagovailoa to ‘let it rip’
While talking about Tua Tagovailoa‘s reaction to his criticisms, Cam Newton then took a slightly different approach to explain what he is looking for from the Miami Dolphins’ quarterback.
In large part, I wouldn’t say it’s all on Tua, but it is a main ingredient, and I just know what he’s capable of… Let it rip. When you have Jaylen Waddle, when you have a Tyreek Hill, when you have Mike McDaniel as your coach, you have all the assets and amenities that you once showed that you are capable of. I don’t know what this in Miami now.

The former Carolina Panthers star believes the Hawaiian QB is proving through his own mistakes that he is struggling despite having all those assets at his disposal.
He once showed what he could do with that offense, but now, it seems something else has taken over, which is causing Tagovailoa to struggle late in games, and that is costing the Dolphins.
Stephen A. Smith was not so forgiving towards Tua Tagovailoa
Cam Newton might have been a bit subtle when talking about Tua Tagovailoa, but his ESPN colleague and First Take host Stephen A. Smith was not so forgiving.

Why is he talking about you, like you’re me or somebody that hasn’t played the game… If Tua has an issue with what you’re saying, then break down and critique what you’re saying as opposed to going to a fallback that’s reserved for journalists and pundits, and commentators. You played!
Stephen A. Smith said
The 57-year-old believes such comments reveal the state of mind of the professional athlete. Smith felt that the Dolphins’ QB was being impacted by all the negativity that started last season and could not process anything correctly.

Smith also feels that Tagovailoa has to get his mind right if he wants to understand, dissect, and then act on or reply to criticisms or questions. For that, he needs to look at himself in the mirror.
