Any time a sports media personality goes after Cam Newton, they better prepare themselves to receive a reply because Cam keeps his receipts. Ryan Clark knows better than most but keeps coming back for more.

Clark called out Newton by name on a recent segment of ESPN’s Get Up for refusing to count Jalen Hurts as a top 10 quarterback. From his point of view, it’s disrespectful toward Hurts because he won the Super Bowl and has a ring to prove it, which Newton does not.

Cam saw the debate and formulated his argument. The former Carolina Panthers quarterback has faced criticism over the years for not falling on the fumbled ball in the Super Bowl. He accepted the criticism by making peace with it, but Clark’s attack pushed all his buttons.

There are too many people [the insiders] that are moved by relationships and moved by, ‘Ah man, I can’t talk bad about this person or I can’t critique his game, because I know that coach or I know this particular person.’ Well, you’re not talking about the person. You’re not even talking about your guys’ relationship. You’re more or less talking about their performance. And that’s what I will talk about… Should I list things that I have that he doesn’t?

Newton flipped their position. Now he was the hunter and Clark his prey (metaphorically). He proceeded to narrate Clark’s tenure as a football player—an All-SEC 2nd-team appearance in college and reaching one Pro Bowl, even though he was undrafted.

Honestly, Clark’s career pales in comparison to Newton’s. Football pundits counted the 36-year-old among the best quarterbacks of his generation, and he rubbed that information on Clark’s face.

Cam Newton doesn’t have any bad blood with Jalen Hurts

Newton’s best quarterback list doesn’t include Jalen Hurts, not because he has a beef with the former Alabama and Oklahoma shot caller; it was purely based on his performances in the Eagles’ Super Bowl run.

From Newton’s perspective, Hurts did not achieve enough to be considered among the top players. The Eagles team, which includes Saquon Barkley, AJ Brown, and DeVonta Smith, contributed more significantly than Hurts.

Jalen Hurts the individual… He’s a stand-up guy. But when it comes to making this point of discussion about top-10 quarterbacks, unfortunately, throwing for only 2,900 yards is not elite numbers.

Hurts and Clark’s verbal altercation is solely their personal opinions. It matters little in the bigger scheme of things. What matters is what the current players, coaches, and executives think.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler spoke with a bunch, and according to them, Jalen Hurts is the ninth-best quarterback in the NFL.

He had a better year running the ball, and the way he played down the stretch when healthy was impressive. Better throwing the ball in general this year and cut out the turnovers.

an NFL executive told Fowler

A few days before Clark’s onslaught, former Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant called Newton out for picking Robert Griffin III’s rookie season over Jayden Daniels’ at Washington.

We’ve got PTSD from not winning for so long, so we don’t even know how to have good things. Like, ‘Damn, okay, when is the honeymoon over?’ It’s easy to think like that… Jayden Daniels is here to stay.

Dez Bryant tweeted in support of Daniels

It’s a fool’s job to attempt to shut Newton up from expressing his opinions. If someone doesn’t like it, they will retaliate, paving the way for future altercations.
