If there’s one thing Cam Newton doesn’t lack, it’s confidence, and he has consistently showcased this through his comments about his NFL career and potential. Counted among the most unique talents in the league, the former quarterback played a significant role in the evolution of the position. However, when asked if Newton considers himself the greatest dual-threat quarterback, he denied it.

In the latest episode of “4th and 1 Show,” the former Carolina Panthers quarterback bestowed the title of ‘greatest dual-threat quarterback’ to the reigning NFL MVP Lamar Jackson instead of himself. He claimed that the Baltimore Ravens’ star quarterback possesses great speed and makes big plays.

No. Lamar Jackson. Lamar's style is a little different than mine. He got big play. Any play. He got speed that I never had and he's just electric. And then I played the game more powerful. I can run but might probably get caught. [Michael] Vick, Lamar [Jackson] ain't getting caught."

Even though Cam Newton isn’t an ordinary name in the league—considered among the best in his prime, he believes Lamar Jackson, a two-time NFL MVP, possesses special abilities that don’t come easy to his position. In fact, according to Adjusted Career Elo, Jackson is expected to surpass Newton soon in terms of productivity.

Lamar Jackson falls short of Steve Young as greatest Ravens dual-threat QB

The Ravens’ star is indeed a strong case for the greatest dual-threat quarterback as Newton highlighted. However, he lacks one big achievement in his Hall of Fame-worthy career. And that’s the Super Bowl ring, which unfortunately puts him behind Steve Young.

The former San Francisco 49ers quarterback was known as a grand name in his era by recording rushing yards of above 4,000 in his NFL career along with 43 rushing yards. To date, Young is still considered the greatest quarterback in Ravens history.

However, Steve Young himself has shown great respect for Jackson, claiming the QB leads with a “more sophisticated passing game.” And he believes that’s exactly what the quarterback needs to engrave his name among the best quarterbacks to ever play in the league.
