Former QB Cam Newton shared his thoughts on second-year Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson following his controversial tap-out against the Houston Texans, where Richardson left the field mid-game, citing fatigue.
The Colts haven’t been great, but they’re not bad either. They have four wins and four losses, sitting second behind the Texans in the AFC South. Anthony Richardson, who played the tenth game of his NFL career, posted 10-of-32 with one touchdown in week 8. In addition to the embarrassing stats, the player drew more ire from fans and ex-players for his shocking exit during the game.
Cam Newton, speaking on ESPN’s First Take, ripped into Anthony Richardson for his actions. Newton, the former Carolina Panthers player, expressed worries that there are some misconceptions about playing in the league. He added that he’s disappointed in the Colts’ QB for his actions.
Newton traced back to Richardson’s rookie year to assess the origin of the trouble. In his ten outings so far, Richardson has won five games. Newton recollected Richardson’s comparison of college football being tougher than the NFL. The ex-Panthers legend added that the incident ticked him off last year considering Richardson has just started.

The 22-year-old has since been replaced by 39-year-old Joe Flacco. Flacco, who has one Championship ring, has made some visible progress. Nevertheless, the media isn’t happy with the benching as well. LeSean McCoy noted that the punishment hinders quarterback development.

During the appearance, Newton also recollected a very personal incident from his playing days. Newton warned Anthony Richardson, with the example of an inaction during Super Bowl 50. The Denver Broncos ended up defeating Newton’s Panthers in the final to list their first title.
In Super Bowl 50, Newton made the controversial choice not to dive on a loose ball. The decision not only contributed to Carolina’s eventual loss but also left a lasting mark on his career. Fans frequently use it to troll him online, keeping the incident alive as a symbol of missed opportunity.
The Indianapolis Colts take on the mighty Minnesota Vikings and Buffalo Bills in the upcoming weeks. Flacco and the boys will look forward to reducing the Texans’ lead after the latter lost quite surprisingly to the New York Jets.
