Despite being Super Bowl favorites, the Thursday Night Football match against the Green Bay Packers was quite challenging for the Detroit Lions. The Packers showcased their prowess to enhance their playoff chances as they stood at 9-4.
With an impressive 8-1 record against non-NFC North opponents, the Packers’ odds of clinching a playoff berth remain intact, even if wild card. However, former NFL star Cam Newton still lacks confidence in Jordan Love’s Packers as he expressed his skepticism in the latest edition of ESPN’s First Take.
The biggest issue as Newton highlighted that restricts the Packers from becoming a strong contender in the league is the consistency. Although they bounced back pretty well on Thursday, they couldn’t keep up with the consistent performance that cost them a chance to improve as 10-3.
Packers aiming for playoff spot amidst frustrating season for Matt LaFleur
Although the Packers still have a fair chance of qualifying for the playoffs, the season appears to be getting frustrating for head coach Matt LaFleur. Since joining Green Bay in 2019, LaFleur has coached his team to qualify for four out of five playoffs. However, the frustration continues as they repeatedly fall short of advancing to the Super Bowl.
Until this Week 14 mishap, the Packers were on a three-game winning streak with a new strategy of targeting one game at a time. Quarterback Love shared that rather than overthinking about the postseason, his team is aiming to finish this regular season on a strong note.
For the remaining weeks of the season, the Packers are scheduled against the Seattle Seahawks, the New Orleans Saints, and the Minnesota Vikings and finish the season with a game in a divisional matchup against the Chicago Bears.
