Looks like Kyren Lacy has caught Cam Newton’s eye but unfortunately, for all the wrong reasons. As it seems the former NFL quarterback saw the headlines mentioning LSU wide receiver’s infamous touchdown celebration from his team’s season opener.
Last Monday, the LSU Tigers faced off the USC Trojans in the season-opening game, which ended in the former’s defeat at 20-27. However, in the first half, as Lacy succeeded in a touchdown, he made a gun gesture aiming to shoot at his opponent’s defender. What made things worse was he did it again from the sideline even after head coach Brian Kelly had a conversation with him about it.
In the latest edition of 4th and 1 podcast, Newton addressed Lacy’s headlines and slammed the wideout for such a bizarre celebration over a touchdown in a college football game. It seems the former Carolina Panthers’ quarterback got frustrated by Lacy’s conduct and called him “corny” and “stupid” on his podcast.
First off, if you were in college, you ain’t a thug. Let’s be real…that ain’t what you’re about… and that’s a good thing! You insinuating a shotgun, you insinuating a gun… that s**t is lame as f**k. Football ain’t a place where thugs can mingle. That ain’t it. I ain’t never seen Lil Wayne on the football field…so I see that celebration, and I am like, bro, that s**t is corny as f**k.Cam Newton said
In addition to Newton, fans have also slammed the LSU wide receiver for such an inappropriate gesture over a touchdown celebration. Even though it was a big deal given it was the first TD of the season, Lacy’s conduct followed by the penalty overshadowed it.
Brian Kelly defends Kyren Lacy after controversial gesture
Unfortunately, this incident from Monday’s college football game has snatched head coach Kelly into controversy after he tried to defend Lacy in his appearance on ‘The Paul Finebaum Show’. Kelly claimed that Lacy’s gun gesture wasn’t aimed at the USC defender but at his own teammate.
It was a matter of frustration...Kyren Lacy. He gets a personal foul penalty. He pointed his finger at a friend of his, and Kyren’s been working on emotional control.Brian Kelly said via Athlon Sports
Kelly claimed that the wide receiver had been working on controlling his emotions however at one moment in the game, when he neglected it, it resulted against him. However, his explanation for Lacy’s unsportsmanlike conduct did no good and prompted fans to call for LSU to fire Kelly.
