Cam Skattebo is certain that he is worthy of the 2024 Heisman trophy over Colorado’s Travis Hunter and Boise State’s Ashton Jeanty. Skattebo proved himself to be part of the conversation with a match-winning performance against #16 Iowa Cyclones in the BIG 12 Championship game on Saturday.
#15 ASU was the marginal favorite against Iowa, but Kenny Dillingham’s team doesn’t give two cents about the writing on paper. They began the season with a 1.2% chance of reaching the title game, and they ended up winning it with Skattebo as their main man.
The 22-year-old California native had a total of over 200 yards and three touchdowns (2 rushing and one receiving) as the Sun Devils capped off a dominating 19-45 victory at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. During the post-match presser, Skattebo spoke with the media and claimed to have been overlooked as a worthy candidate for the Heisman Trophy.
"I'm the best running back in the country and I'm gonna stand on that."

Where does Cam Skattebo stand in the Heisman race?
As many as six players were in the mix for the prestigious Heisman Trophy about a month ago. By the time the season ended, two players separated themselves from the rest. Colorado’s two-way star Travis Hunter and Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty.
Hunter had 1100+ receiving yards and 14 touchdowns in the offense, along with 32 combined tackles and 4 interceptions in the 2024 season on his way to winning the Paul Hornung Award. Jeanty, on the other hand, rushed 312 times for 2497 yards and scored 29 touchdowns en route to winning the Mountain West Championship after the Broncos beat UNLV.
Despite having 2074 rushing yards and 22 touchdowns for Arizona, Cam Skattebo was never considered a strong contender for the Heisman. Skattebo received an endorsement from Dillingham after the game against Iowa.
"I mean I don't know what else you can do to put your name in the race."
