If there’s a game in Buffalo and Ryan Fitzpatrick’s a host or in the panel, one might expect to see a chest with a touch of hair. That has become a tradition in the Buffalo Bills’ game, but he made an exception on Thursday for rookie Cam Skattebo.

Skattebo was sensational in Thursday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles with nineteen carries for 98 yards and three touchdowns. The running back’s performance helped the New York Giants to upset the Birds in a thrilling encounter between the two teams.

Cam Skattebo made a major mark in the game and became a season highlight with the first three-touchdown rushing game for the Big Blue since 2011. His energy was matched by their rookie quarterback, Jaxson Dart, who also stepped up with 195 passing yards and a touchdown. The zealous energy of the game was unparalleled, and it makes sense. The win was the Giants’ first win against a defending champion since 1988.

And the Dart and Skattebo were channeling that energy in the aftermath of the game. Skattebo, during his sideline broadcast panel, along with former quarterback and broadcaster Fitzpatrick, ripped off their outfits and did an iconic chest bump, followed by screaming into the microphone. Meanwhile, Dart, who was initially in the middle of the duo, shifted to the side and started a “Skattebo” chant with the fans.

Fitzpatrick breaking the tradition was quite noticeable, and he admitted that he broke a promise when he celebrated with Skattebo. But, after that performance, he deemed Skattebo to be the perfect exception to his ritual.

Cam Skattebo shut down any comparisons with Saquon Barkley

The Philadelphia Eagles coming as defending champions to the MetLife Stadium had an extra layer of dramatic narrative. Saquon Barkley, whom the Giants let go ahead of last season, was coming back to East Rutherford with a ring and an OPOY to his name. Barkley led the league in rushing yards and broke the record for most in a season, combining regular season and postseason numbers.

The return of Barkley and the emergence of Cam Skattebo were sure to bring about some comparisons, and it did. However, Skattebo was quick to shut down any kind of comparisons after the game. In a question raised by a reporter in this specific angle, Skattebo mentioned that the game was played between two franchises and not between individuals. He said:

No disrespect at all, it was an Eagles vs Giants tonight. It wasn’t a Skatt vs Saquon, and that’s how it’s going to stay.

After the game, the two had parted ways with a fair handshake, suggesting that there’s no bad blood. The running back’s humility was not unnoticed by fans. Fans and coaches have previously applauded him for his down-to-earth nature. Earlier in the offseason, the running back won hearts with his assessment of himself, where he said that he has proven nothing so far, and there are miles to go to be there.

The Giants and Skattebo are now 2-4 on the season, still last in the NFC East behind the Dallas Cowboys. They return to action next Sunday against the Denver Broncos with added motivation from this game. As for the Eagles, they will hope to exact revenge on the Big Blue, coming up with a refashioned offensive scheme, when they play them at their own home in Week 8.

The Eagles have a bye week following Week 8 and a win at Philly before a much-needed rest would be perfect enough for their campaign.
