With just weeks to go until the NFL Draft, the pressure is mounting on Shedeur Sanders and Cam Ward. The two quarterbacks are being regarded as the best options at their position. While Sanders’ has been receiving slightly more media coverage than Ward due to his last name and unfettered confidence when it comes to marketing himself, the latter is quietly emerging as a better option for teams looking to pick their franchise quarterback.

The New York Giants and the Jets are teams in dire need of a quarterback. The Giants have the third overall pick while the Jets have the seventh overall pick. With the departure of Daniel Jones, the Giants will select a quarterback and all signs are pointing to them opting for Shedeur Sanders over Ward.

Shedeur began to pitch himself to the Giants months earlier. He was seen hanging out with Malik Nabers and dropping hints at wanting to be a part of the franchise. However, this does not mean that they have not considered choosing Cam Ward with their pick.

The Tennessee Titans are a wild card in this draft. While the team requires a quarterback, there is a good chance that they are inclined toward picking Abdul Carter of Penn State or Travis Hunter of Colorado. The reason is that although Shedeur and Cam Ward are good quarterbacks, Hunter and Carter are better players at their positions.

Apart from the Giants, the Jets have expressed a strong interest in picking Cam Ward if he is available at number 7. The quarterback spoke positively about his conversation with new HC Aaron Glenn at the NFL Combine. “I think the Jets are not too far off, maybe a couple pieces, and I’m just hoping that I can be one of them,” Ward said.

The New York Jets have amazing talent on offense and defense

Ideally, the Jets would be a dream destination for a quarterback. For a rookie, there is no better situation to be in. This is because of Garrett Wilson and Davante Adams. As Shedeur Sanders and Cam Ward both make their final case to be the first-picked quarterback of this draft class, it is important to take a look at their numbers.

Sanders finished the year with a 74% completion rate, 4,134 yards, 37 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. Ward ended his season with 67.2% completed passes for 4,313 yards, 39 touchdowns, and 7 interceptions.

Their numbers are not worlds apart but in terms of personality and character, they differ. Cam Ward is not as extroverted as Shedeur and talks when needed. His philosophy is to let his game do all the talking.

Ward is the type of quarterback a franchise brings into a locker room without hoping for a cultural change. Shedeur Sanders is an outspoken quarterback who continues to make it clear that he intends to bring in a cultural change in the locker room.

Despite the Giants and Jets being at a crossroads when it comes to their choice of quarterback, it is the personality and leadership traits of these players that will decide who goes where.

Ideally, the Giants are likely to go with Shedeur Sanders and the Jets with Ward. This is assuming no other team including the Raiders picks them. Shedeur is a better fit with the Giants because he will bring more fans through the door and ultimately, he has a marketable personality which matters for a team considered the best in New York.

Cam Ward will be a better fit with the Jets because he is the kind of quarterback Aaron Glenn is seeking. Coming from a locker room that believed in letting actions speak louder than words, Glenn will ultimately be inclined to pick him.
