The Tennessee Titans started yet another season on the wrong foot, losing the first game of the season to the Denver Broncos. The Titans were rather silent in rookie quarterback Cam Ward’s debut in the low-scoring affair at the Empower Field at Mile High in Denver, Colorado.
The Titans had only one big play in their 20–12 loss. On quarterback Ward’s very first throw, a short pass to Tony Pollard turned into a 29-yard gain. After that, their longest play was just 16 yards. The whole game, the Titans gained only 133 yards and managed just seven first downs.
Ward, who replaced injured Will Levis as starter, finished with 12 completions on 28 attempts for 116 yards and was sacked six times. Not an ideal start for the No. 1 pick. His drastic numbers were, however, not all his fault.
The offensive line broke down at crucial moments, and the receivers missed several catches. With the limited opportunities he got to throw, receivers missing those catches were painstakingly bad, especially the one by Calvin Ridley that would have given them a first down on their last offensive drive.
Nevertheless, Cam Ward is not angry or harsh with the receivers. The young quarterback is quite understanding about these things that could happen. In a press conference on Wednesday, Ward acknowledged that it’s about the next play rather than obsessing over the past.
I am never going to get on those guys for dropping a ball. I’m going to throw a pick at some point in the season. So, bad plays are going to happen. The biggest thing is when we get back to the huddle, we have to always have a next-play mentality. I am not too worried about that – those boys are going to catch the ball,” Ward said.

In the era of passing the blame, Ward’s fresh perspective has garnered him public support. The media and fans online have called his take something that a leader would do. However, a few did reflect on Ward’s subtle snub at the offense last week.
The Titans return to Nissan Stadium for their home opener on
The Tennessee Titans return to action this week against the Los Angeles Rams in their home opener. The Rams started their campaign with a win against the Houston Texans, Tennessee’s divisional rival. The energy in Nashville is buzzing as the city prepares to receive the Rams and the first home game of the season.

So is Cam Ward who’s amped up for the first win of his career. First home game in a packed stadium brimming in blue and white. He said, addressing the reporters:
I’m excited for it. I get to go out there in front of a packed stadium for the first time, for real, not a preseason game. I am excited for myself, the team, trying to get our first win of the season. I am ready to get it going.
The first win won’t be an easy one. The Rams have a strong offense, but they had some issues in that season opener win against the Houston Texans. They had penalties that cost them some explosive plays on offense and special teams last week.
The Titans, nevertheless, have to correct their mistakes before they capitalize on the Rams’ faults, considering that they are tied for most penalties. Their offense was one of the worst in several offensive categories, if not the worst. They rank last in total yards by the offense (133 yards), first downs (7), pass completions (12), and average yards per play (2.4 yards).
The Titans’ OL allowed six sacks on the quarterback, and they were abysmal on third-down conversions. They converted only 2 of 14 attempts, a success rate of just 14.3%, which is nearly 8% worse than any other NFL team. On the other hand, the Rams’ third-down defense held the Texans to only 2 conversions on 9 tries.
