As glorifying as Cam Ward’s draft projection seems, there appear to be some questions about the quarterback’s missing the final game with the Miami Hurricanes, making many believe he abandoned them. However, he doesn’t seem too bothered by those questions, as he knows how he would deal with them.

After a spectacular season and being ranked among the top two quarterbacks of the Class of 2025, Ward was honored with the Davey O’Brien Award. This seems to also have enhanced his confidence in himself, which reflected well when he sent a startling warning to the NFL teams ahead of the NFL Scouting Combine

“OK, you’re either going to draft me or you’re not,” said Ward on Monday, via The Associated Press.

If you don’t draft me, that’s your fault. You’ve got to remember you’re the same team that’s got to play me for the rest of my career, and I’ll remember that.

While heading to the Indianapolis Colts for the Scouting Combine, Ward is also planning not to throw at Miami’s Pro Day, despite the possibility of being the No. 1 overall pick. Fortunately for him, the league happens to be in desperate need of good quarterbacks, especially the Tennessee Titans, New York Giants, and Cleveland Browns– one of whom can likely be a landing spot for Ward

The Hurricanes quarterback finished his college career with the third most passing yards in NCAA history with 18,189 and 158 touchdown passes. Although he had limited time in Miami, it didn’t take him long to make an impact with the single-season school record for completions of 305, touchdown passes of 39, yards of 4,313, and a completion rate of 67.2%.

Cam Ward explains halftime exit amid ongoing criticism

Amid the ongoing scrutiny for quitting on Miami in the middle of the game at the Pro-Tarts Bowl, Ward also explained what happened, while receiving the Davey O’Brien Award. He revealed that the decision to leave after halftime was already determined by him and the Miami coaching staff.

I just think we all got what we needed out of itWe feel like we’re doing what’s best for the program and myself. I mean, it was a hard decision, especially when, you know, some guys on our team didn’t play who I thought should have played. It was also, you know, those guys thought about their future the same way I thought about mine.

Miami head coach Mario Cristobal also spoke in Ward’s defense, slamming the critics for creating “false narratives” of the quarterback quitting on his team. The only disappointing aspect of the game was the Hurricanes’ loss, however, he stated that he would gladly go through it again if given the chance.
