After spending a few months training with his teammates at the Tennessee Titans, quarterback Cam Ward has a fair assessment of where the team currently stands. The Titans fans already know the answer, but the rookie quarterback mustered up the courage to say the obvious.
We’re very mid right now – from my position to up front to the receiver position.
Cam Ward said on Wednesday after practice
Without mincing his words, Ward clearly said that the team is nowhere he would like it to be.
The Titans ended their 2024 campaign with just three wins, handing them the first overall pick in the draft. The Titans’ new general manager, Mike Borgonzi, selected Ward to challenge Will Levis for the starting quarterback job.
Levis withdrew his name from the running after deciding to undergo shoulder surgery. It will keep Levis out for the entire 2025 campaign. As a result, Ward became the undisputed number one, with Tim Boyle as his backup.
Ward has veterans Calvin Ridley, Tony Pollard, Kevin Zitler, and Josh Simmons to lean on in case he needs help. Moreover, Borgonzi added Super Bowl-winning receiver Tyler Lockett and Ward’s former Miami teammate, Xavier Restrepo, in the offseason.

2025 is not only a test for Ward as the number one pick but also for head coach Brian Callahan. Despite being only his second season in charge of the AFC South franchise, Callahan is among the favorites to lose their job.
The pressure is certainly on the rookie and his coach. Fortunately, the Titans drew the eighth-easiest schedule (ht/Sharpe Football Analysis). However, DraftKings Sports Network projected that the Titans will start the new campaign with a defeat. Ward’s team is a 7.5-point underdog in the week one fixture against the AFC West franchise, the Denver Broncos.
At the end of the day, it all starts with me. I just don’t think we’re where we need to be. But we got a little bit of time. Every day, we get better as a whole. We’re a young team, but that’s no excuse. We’ve got to come with the right mindset every day and come to work.

Cam Ward gets a historically low rating on Madden 26
Every fan of EA’s famous football video game eagerly waits for the company to release the ratings of the rookies. There are always a few surprises each year, but the latest numbers raised more than a couple of eyebrows.

After Shedeur Sanders lost his advantage as a highly sought-after quarterback, Ward became the clear favorite to be first overall. The Titans did not miss the chance to draft the quarterback who logged 67.2% pass completion and 43 overall touchdowns in his senior year for Miami.
Unfortunately, EA did not view Ward in the same bracket as the three best players in the draft: Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter (84), runner-up Ashton Jeanty (83), and arguably the best defensive player in the draft, edge rusher Abdul Carter (81).

The lowest Madden rating for a No. 1 pick in 24 years.
EA assigned Cam Ward a rating of 72, the highest for a rookie quarterback in the game. His peers, Jaxson Dart (Giants) and Tyler Shough (Saints), received ratings of 68, while Shedeur Sanders (Browns) received a 67 rating. Ward became the lowest-rated rookie number one pick since former Falcons QB Michael Vick in Madden 02.
