Ahead of the 2025 Draft, Cam Ward came in with the reputation of being the best option among the available quarterback prospects. That led him to go No. 1 overall to the Tennessee Titans.
Since then, the spotlight shifted from him to the team’s lackluster performances, which saw the rookie label himself and the team as being bad in every aspect.
His motive was to improve, and the team saw some steady progress despite their losses. However, in Week 4, they suffered their worst loss of the season, and some wondered if Ward was the right selection.
Then came their Week 5 clash against the Arizona Cardinals, and there was some hope that the Titans could make something out of it, especially with the lack of consistency from their opponents.
However, the away team fell back as the Cardinals jumped into a 21-6 at the half. That lead continued all the way until the 4th quarter, and the home team had a chance to cement their win.
With the clock ticking at the 12:50 mark, the Cardinals ran a run play from a 3rd and 1 situation. Running back Emari Demercado ran straight through the hole his offensive line created and galloped towards the end zone.
His pace was good enough to leave two Titans defenders in the dust. Then, as he approached the goal line, he slowed down, and tossed the ball. Initially, it was deemed to be a touchdown, but replays showed otherwise.

The running back repeated last week’s blunder from Colts wideout Adonai Mitchell, by dropping the ball before it crossed the goal line. This negated Demercado’s 72 yard effort, giving the ball back to the Titans.
Cardinals turn Cam Ward interception to fumble and Titans TD
This was not the only fumble of the night for the Arizona Cardinals. Had they scored on that play, they would have sealed the game. Instead, their Sunday was about to take a turn for the worse.
On the next drive, Cam Ward led his Titans to score a touchdown, reducing their deficit to just 9 points. Then the defense did its part and stopped the Cardinals from scoring.
On the next drive, the rookie QB drove the team down to their opponents’ 20-yard line. Ward took the snap, and scrambled to his left to avoid a sack. After regaining composure, he threw a short pass straight down the field.
It was tipped, and fell into the hands of Cardinals’ safety, Dadrion Taylor-Demerson. As he came down with the ball, it slipped out of his hands, and as his teammates tried to get their hands on it, it bounced into the end zone.

Veteran receiver Tyler Lockett was watching the wild goose chase, and the moment the ball arrived near where he was standing, he pounced onto it, securing it. Since that was in the end zone, it was ruled a touchdown. The score now read 19-21.
Cam Ward praised team’s defiance in the face of adversity
A while ago, Cam Ward was not happy with both his, and the team’s lack of effort. Standing with CBS’ Aditi Kinkhabwala, he had a completely different tone after closing the game with a 22-21 win.

We played good today, just from an adversity standpoint. We battled throughout the whole game… We have got a lot of hard-working people on the team. We just got to continue to be better.
Cam Ward said
The Miami Hurricane alum added that the team has the right personnel to continue what they have started. They have been working hard, and even though the first two quarters were riddled with mistakes, they still came up strong.

Now, he hopes his team would continue to do this in every quarter they play. The Titans next face the Las Vegas Raiders. That is another opportunity to win after the Vegas team’s embarrassing form.
