Negativity sells on social media, and there’s ample proof to choose from. Let’s take Cam Ward, for example. Hooligans on social media targeted the Tennessee Titans’ rookie quarterback based on a bait video.

So, what exactly happened? Reporters flocked to the Titans’ offseason training camp venue to catch a glimpse of the first overall pick—who has gone under the radar—and wanted his reaction to teammate Will Levis health.

There are four quarterbacks on the Titans roster. However, Levis separated himself as Ward’s main competitor for the starting quarterback job.

Disheartening and disappointing news came out of the Titans camp last week. Head coach Brian Callahan and general manager Mike Borgonzi announced that the 26-year-old was placed on the season-ending injured reserve list due to a shoulder injury. Levis is scheduled to undergo surgery, which will take nearly 10 months in rehab to fully recover.

Reporters wanted a reaction from Ward on Levis. Popular NFL news breaker Dov Kleiman shared a video of the Q&A session.

I really don’t have a reaction. I focus on Cam Ward.

Ward’s words sound insensitive upon hearing them for the first time. X users viewed the Miami graduate’s response negatively.

Usually, rookies refrain from talking badly about their seniors even if they are fighting for the same job. Ward’s statement proved his lack of media training.

Then again, this was not his first time in front of the camera. Four years as a starting quarterback in college programs come with media attention and facing tough questions. So, X users disliked the former Canes’ tone.

Now here’s the reality of the entire scenario. Fans who watched the interview on TV or YouTube should know that Dov Kleiman’s video is only a fraction of Ward’s answer.

Here’s what Cam Ward actually said:

I really didn’t have a reaction. I focus on Cam Ward. He made what’s best for him. I really can’t be mad at somebody for doing what’s best for him. I wish him a speedy recovery.

Conveniently leaving out the part where Ward sympathizes with Levi’s situation paints the youngster as a bad guy. It’s an age-old ploy to create a rift among teammates. Luckily, a lot of people caught on to Dov’s intentions and called him out in the comment section.

Anyways, Ward is now the clear favorite to start in week one for the Titans, with Tim Boyle and Brandon Allen fighting for the backup job. Before that, Ward must create a rapport with his receivers, and Coach Callahan believes his rookie star is going to guide him every step of the way.

There’s going to be things that we got to correct every day… Every single day I think is going to be an opportunity for development for him, and I’m looking forward to it.

Brian Callahan said via ESPN

Unlike the 2024 season, when the NFL saw four rookies starting for their respective teams, Ward might be the only one this year unless something new develops in Cleveland and New Orleans.
