The Los Angeles Lakers faced the Phoenix Suns at home on Sunday afternoon. The Lakers won with a score of 107-96. Large part of the success comes from a dominant performance of superstar guard Luka Doncic. The Suns had no response for Doncic in this contest. The Slovenian superstar was all over the court. In addition, he also bullied the Suns’ $7 million star man, Oso Ighodaro.
Doncic had the better of the 7-foot Ighodaro in multiple scenarios during the game. But the main moment that caught everyone’s attention was Doncic schooling Ighodaro after making a one-on-one shot. After the shot, the Lakers star proceeded to slap Ighodaro’s shoe as he was wearing it. This left many NBA fans in laughter.
In addition, some would say it was Doncic’s day at the Crypto.com Arena. Luka Doncic completed the game with 33 points, 11 rebounds, eight assists, and two steals in 40 minutes, shooting 8/20 from the field and 4/11 from three. Doncic stepped up in LeBron James‘ absence, something the Lakers fans were hoping for.

The Lakers ended a four-game losing slide following James’ groin injury. With the win, the Lakers moved to 41-25 in 66 games, placing them fifth in the Western Conference. The Lakers have gained some ground in the standings, while the red-hot Golden State Warriors are coming closer. Doncic and the team have an NBA Playoff spot to fight for going into the concluding weeks of this regular season.
Luka Doncic had a hilarious 4-word reaction to Suns’ big man
The Phoenix Suns had no response for Luka Doncic on their offensive side of the floor, which was a major cause of their loss. After hitting a and-one against Oso Ighodaro, Doncic poured salt in the Suns’ wounds with a straightforward four-word message that fans in the stands picked up on.
He cannot guard me!

For a few games, Doncic was facing immense criticism from the NBA media. But now, since he has settled, the Lakers are reaping the benefits of a star like Doncic. Moreover, the Lakers HC JJ Redick was impressed with Doncic’s commitment toward his team. If he continues to perform in this manner, the Lakers will surely contend for the NBA title this season.
Aside from this, the Lakers will not have much time to celebrate this victory against the Suns because they will play the San Antonio Spurs on Monday, the second night of a back-to-back. However, with LeBron James still set to return to this lineup, the Lakers might become an unstoppable force this season.
Luka Doncic praises his side’s defense after recent win against the Suns
It wasn’t just Luka Doncic who was firing on all guns against the Phoenix Suns. His teammates, Austin Reaves, Jaxon Hayes, and Dorian Finney-Smith, stepped up their game as well. They were good in offense, but their defensive measures clearly stood out. It is something that Doncic was impressed with during the post-game interview. As such, Doncic stated that his side’s defense was ‘impressive.’
We know we have to do better; we know we have to be more physical, first of all. But I think our defense was amazing today from start to finish.
Luka Doncic said after the game
Finney-Smith guarded Kevin Durant and helped force the Phoenix star to miss eight of his first nine shots. Hayes, a former lottery choice, dominated at the rim and moved in and out of defensive shifts. Reaves finished with 28 points, six assists, and four rebounds. With the win, the Lakers will aim for a strong finish before the playoff begins.
