Following the conclusion of the 2024 LIV Golf season, Cameron Smith is now playing in the home country of Australia. However, he did not seem too pleased with the courses in his home soil and slammed them.

Smith blasted the course set up at Kingston Heath ahead of the Australian Open this week. He was reported to be fuming at the “soft and slow” conditions of the golf course.

The authorities told him that rainfall had caused this issue. As per Australian Golf Digest, significant rains hit Melbourne on Sunday and on Wednesday, when Smith played in the Pro-Am with former Prime Minister Scott Morrison.

Smith, though, labeled this as a “bulls**t excuse” and ranted at the course setup.

The weather down here the last couple of weeks has been pretty good, I know they got some rain over the weekend and again this morning, but I’ve played down here in rain before and it’s still been like that the next day. So, I think that’s a bulls**t excuse, to be honest. I think it’s been prepared like this for a reason and it’s not how these golf courses are meant to be played.

Before the start of the event, Smith defended his comments and claimed that several players liked his words. His Rippers GC teammates are reported to be the ones who supported this claim of Smith.

A lot of players liked it. I haven’t heard from anyone else yet.

Smith was later asked whether he expects to hear something from the tournament organizers. The 2022 Open Championship winner shook his head and said he does not “think so“.

Cameron Smith eyeing maiden Australian Open title following close defeat at BMW PGA Championship

Last weekend Cameron Smith looked set to claim another BMW Australian PGA Championship as he was in fine form. However, he was unable to cross the finish line as Elvis Smylie overtook him and won his first DP World Tour. Smith is now eyeing a maiden Australian Open crown.

Despite dominating in his homeland, this is the one competition Smith has never won. Last year after announcing his return to the DP World Tour, the former PGA Tour star claimed this was one tournament that he wanted and was working hard to get to it.

Unfortunately, Smith would once again come up short. While Joaquin Niemann took home the title, finishing 14-under 271, Smith finished T17 by shooting 7-under 281, 10 shots behind Niemann.

After the first round of the 2024 edition, Smith is T4 while carding a score of 6-under 65 on Thursday. His Rippers GC teammate Lucas Herbert currently leads the event with a score of 8-under 63, whereas defending champion Niemann is T95 with a score of 1-over 73 and faces the danger of missing the cut.
