With LIV Golf playing their sixth event of the year in Adelaide, the pressure was obviously going on to be Cameron Smith and his all-Aussie team, Rippers GC. The 30-year-old stood out in his home country and lead his team to a historic triumph at LIV Golf Adelaide.

The reason why this victory became historic is not only because all four members of Rippers GC are from Australia, this win came through a playoff. Prior to this event, the team title on LIV Golf had never been decided this way, thus making this the first instance where playoff rounds were required.

Playing on home soil, Cameron Smith received huge cheers from the fans whenever he went up to play. One instance saw the crowd walking behind him to the next hole, which signaled the amount of love they had for him.

After a 4-under 68 score in Round 1, Smith soared back in contention with a 7-under 65 on Saturday. In the final round, he was unable to replicate the same scores and finished 2-under 70 which earned him a T14 finish.

The performances of his teammates Marc Leishmann, Lucas Herbert and Matt Jones saw the team finish with a score of 53-under and level on terms with Stingers GC. Thus a two vs. two playoff round was needed to decide the winner.

Despite two poor swings at the 18th hole from Smith, he and Lieshmann were able to defeat the South African duo of Louis Oosthuizen and Dean Burmester. The final putt from the Rippers GC captain saw the crowd erupt in joy at the Grange Golf Club.

Cameron Smith left speechless following team victory at LIV Golf Adelaide

The victory of Rippers GC left their captain Cameron Smith speechless. During the interview after the win, the six-time PGA Tour winner didn’t knew what to say after captaining his side to a historic triumph.

Smith though did claim that this (winning at LIV Golf Adelaide) was something that they had been dreaming. Before that he went to call this moment as “unreal“.

This is unreal. It is a dream come true for us. I think we’ve been talking about this all year. It’s one that we wanted to win obviously but… I don’t even know what to say… It’s just so good.

Cameron Smith said.

The event also saw HyFlyers GC claim their first podium finish as Brendan Steele emerged as the individual champion. His victory along with the performances of his teammates saw them finish third in the team standings, their best ever-finish since LIV Golf Chicago in 2022, where they finished third as well.
