The year 2025 has been a difficult one for Cameron Smith in the majors. The LIV Golfer on Friday became the only player this season to play and miss the cut in all 4 major championships this year as he failed to secure his status for the weekend at the Open Championship at Royal Portrush.

Smith had a tough start to the Open Championship on Thursday and was 3-over through the front nine. The 2022 Open Champion would make a slight recovery and with 2 birdies in the back nine, he dropped his score down to 1-over par.

On Friday though, things went downhill for him. After making bogeys on the 2nd and 5th holes in Round 2, he made a double bogey on the 6th hole. Following another bogey on the 9th hole, Smith was 5-over for the day after just nine holes.

His bogey streak continued on the 10th and 11th holes as his score kept increasing. Another bogey on the 14th hole saw his score go 8-over par. He did manage to make a birdie on the 17th hole but the damage was already done.

The Australian international finished the round with a 7-over par score and was 8-over par for the tournament. He would thus miss the cutline of 1-over par by 7 shots and had to make another early exit.

He thus became the only player to play and miss the cut in every major championship. All the others who have played in all 4 majors this year have made at least one cut

At the Masters Tournament, Smith fired scores of 71 and 78 and finished 5-over par. In the PGA Championship, his scores were reversed as he shot 78 in Round 1 and 71 in Round 2 and ended the event with a 7-over par score.

At the U.S. Open in Oakmont, Smith registered scores of 75 and 73 in the two rounds. He would finish 8-over par in this major event.

Overall, this missed cut at the Open Championship was his 5th straight major where he failed to make the cut. He had an early exit from the Open last year as well as he carded scores of 80 and 74 in the two rounds and finished 12-over par. Before that, he had made the cut in all 3 major events and finished T6 at the Masters.

Golf fans on social media have blamed LIV Golf for this. One user wrote, “LIV Golf ruined him” while taking a swipe at the tour for his performance.

Check out that and some reactions from X below:

The LIV Golf league has received several criticisms for not being competitive enough. The PIF-backed tour does not feature a cut and follows a 54-hole format instead of the 72-hole one. This means, every LIV Golf event consist of just 3 rounds instead of the regular 4 rounds.

Cameron Smith not the only big LIV Golf name to miss the cut at Open Championship

Cameron Smith suffered an early elimination from the 153rd Open Championship as he once again failed to make a cut in this event. He though was not the only big LIV Golf name who missed the chance of playing the weekend at the Royal Portrush.

The biggest name from LIV Golf to miss the cut at the Open this week was Brooks Koepka. The 5-time major champion carded scores of 75 and 74 in the two rounds and ended up finishing with a 7-over score.

This turned out to be his third major, where he missed the cut this year. The former World No.1 first missed the cuts at the Masters Tournament and the PGA Championship and then finished T12 at the U.S. Open last month.

Another big name who missed the cut from LIV Golf was Joaquin Niemann. The Chilean golfer, who has won 4 times on the LIV Golf circuit this year, ended up suffering an early exit from the Open Championship with a 2-over par, one stroke more than the cutline.

A total of 19 LIV Golfers took the trip to Northern Ireland this week. A total of 11 will be playing this weekend and hope to have a top finish in the final major event of the year.
