The Cincinnati Bengals lost to division rivals Baltimore Ravens in overtime at the Paul Brown Stadium in Cincinnati, Ohio. The loss has further handed a setback to the Bengals who are now 1-4 in the ongoing season.

The Bengals seemed to cruise towards their second AFC North victory for most of the game. However, the lead was in dangerous territory from time to time and ultimately led to the Ravens clinching the win with Justin Tucker’s 24-yard field goal.

Joe Burrow, who returned from a wrist injury this season showcased one of the best performances in the tournament. Nevertheless, the result did end up disappointing.

The fashionable quarterback did not look any happy and definitely didn’t hold back on his thoughts after the game. Speaking to the media, he expressed his anguish at where they are but also noted that there’s hope moving forward.

We’re not a championship-level team right now. We’re not. I like to think that we’ll come back and improve throughout the season to get to that point, but right now we are not and we have to get better.

Burrow also spoke on the controversial overtime passiveness they exhibited. Earlier, fellow mates Tee Higgins and Ja’Marr Chase made comments on how cautiousness led to their loss. Burrow defended the situation as it could have ended up both ways.

Joe Burrow aside, Zac Taylor defends his overtime approach

Zac Taylor, the Bengals HC defended his strategy to adopt a more conservative approach in overtime following linebacker Germaine Pratt’s recovery of a fumbled shotgun snap by Ravens QB Lamar Jackson. Cincinnati opted for three consecutive rushing plays, but kicker Evan McPherson subsequently missed a 53-yard field goal. The miss is largely attributed to a poor hold from rookie Ryan Rehkow.

Taylor emphasized that he was not concerned by the situation, and stated that he must make decisions for which he will take full responsibility – especially when they do not yield positive results.

The Bengals will now play the struggling New York Giants next week as Joe Burrow records a milestone. In his career, Burrow has played against all 31 teams except the Big Blue – completing at least one game against all NFL teams. He will also look forward to winning his first game against a team in the NFC East.
