The Kansas City Chiefs came oh-so-close to making history, to become the first team in NFL history to win three straight titles. The Philadelphia Eagles edged out the Chiefs 40-22 in a lopsided battle at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.
After their 40-22 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, which ended their bid for a third consecutive title, Patrick Mahomes took full responsibility. The three-time Super Bowl MVP acknowledged his role in three turnovers and emphasizes the need to elevate his performance.
In contrast to his pre-game appearance, Patrick Mahomes appeared in a gray tee for the post-game media interaction. He admitted he needs to play better for the team next time. He also congratulated the Eagles for their victory.
I just didn’t play to my standard. I have to be better next time.

He also expressed similar emotions on a social media post later.
Appreciate all the love and support from #ChiefsKingdom

I let y’all down today. I’ll always continue to work and try and learn and be better for it.
Want to give thanks to God for every opportunity he has given me.
We will be back.
Patrick Mahomes finished the game with 21 of 32 pass attempts for 257 yards, throwing three touchdowns and two interceptions, along with a fumble. Mahomes had just 17 passing yards in the first quarter, his lowest in any game this season. He had been averaging 57 yards per first quarter entering the game.
He recorded an 11.4 Total QBR, the second-lowest in a Super Bowl since ESPN introduced the metric in 2006. He also threw his first career postseason pick-six, as birthday boy Cooper DeJean’s 38-yard interception return for a touchdown gave the Eagles a 17-0 lead with 7:03 remaining in the first half.
Patrick Mahomes had a silent night in Februrary after the loss
Matt Verderame of Sports Illustrated, reported that Patrick Mahomes was in shock and disbelief over the devastating result and underwhelming performance. Mahomes, following his quick and self relfective post game speech, reportedly had a quick rinse and remained quiet for the rest of the night.

As per Verderame, Mahomes remained seated at his stall and appeared deep in thought. His phone and two full bottles of water remained untouched. Without his shoes, socks, or slides, he sat still and did not interact with teammates. A light green towel covered his head as he reportedly reflected on the game’s outcome.
After some time, Patrick Mahomes removed the towel and shut the wooden lid of his foot locker. He then stood up, collected his shoes, and moved past media members before entering head coach Andy Reid’s office, shutting the door behind him.
After the word with the head coach, he left the stadium. The 29-year-old has taken a trip to the AFC Championships in all seasons since his starting. He has won three rings and remains a true contender in the conference. Nevertheless, the come-so-close, yet-too-far loss will sting for quite a bit of time.
