During Wednesday’s final press conference, Canelo Alvarez and boxing promoter Oscar De La Hoya almost came to blows. The press conference aimed to promote Canelo’s DAZN PPV exclusive fight against Jaime Munguia on Saturday. He puts his undisputed super middleweight title straps on the line against the 43-0 (34 KOs) powerhouse. The Mexican went on an unhinged rant about De La Hoya’s various vices and exploits.

The animosity between Canelo and Golden Boy Promotions De La Hoya is nothing new. Alvarez has always remained ardently vocal about his differences with Golden Boy Promotions after his split. He even warned Ryan Garcia against signing on. Alvarez also took offense when Oscar De La Hoya labeled the first press conference boring. As such, Canelo recently fired back with se*ual commentary about De La Hoya’s exploitative methods of making money.

For this imbecile I have to my left, I was already 'Canelo' when I came to the USA... He only profited from my name. He never lost a single cent...He made money [instead]...The only thing this man does is be a scourge of boxing...[and] steal from boxers. Anyone who is with him, please bring lawyers. Because he's surely stealing...He's only come to steal attention from Jaime Munguia. He also steals the attention of people who make things for the kitchen...

Michael Benson, boxing editor for talkSport.com (@MichaelBensonn), reposted the notorious rant that PBC provided a context for the Olympian boxing veteran’s sex*al extravaganza and bizarre innuendos often go viral. De La Hoya and his ex, Shanna Moakler, were once subject to a million-dollar extortion scheme. Two influencer models had filmed his bizarre acts of se*ual infidelity using kitchen utensils; now, Alvarez blatantly alluded to that.

The diss did not come unwarranted as Oscar De La Hoya read a pre-written speech that overtly said Alvarez needed GBP and Jaime Munguia. He also irked the boxer with facts that would historically anger him, like failing previous drug tests. Alvarez later mentioned that he was GBP’s golden goose and went on an unrelenting diss. However, De La Hoya fired back as well.

‘Saul’ Canelo Alvarez meets unbeaten challenger Jaime Munguia in a super middleweight title scrap, which goes down this weekend on DAZN pay-per-view. Their final Fight Week press conference took shape on Wednesday. However, the discourse of the media scrum event came under jeopardy, with Alvarez almost raging up to hit Oscar De La Hoya.

Standing right next on the dias to the boxer, Golden Boy Promotions’ promoter De La Hoya irked him. Having worked with Alvarez from 2010 to 2020, De La Hoya said his mental health was at stake. He also openly alluded to Canelo’s failing drug testing procedures and urged him to credit his fame to GBP alone. A raging Alvarez charged him, overlapping his claims, but De La Hoya wasn’t afraid.

Everybody has their moment, everybody has their time. I feel that Jaime can take advantage of it, I was ready, Because he can’t take the truth…Fighters like that can’t have me around because the attention is diverted off them and they hate that…I know how to get under his skin. I’m one to bury the hatchet, but the ship has sailed. If there’s one person in the world that I won’t bury the hatchet with, it’s probably him.

Alvarez tested positive for the PED clenbuterol before his May 2018 fight in Las Vegas. The Nevada State Athletic Commission suspended the boxer, pushing the boxing bout for later. De La Hoya poked him on this lone topic several times. However, the promoter said he was not backing down or burying the hatchet on such topics of feuds any sooner.

Boxingscene.com asked Alvarez during the pre-fight grand arrivals what he thought of the feud and the promoter’s remarks. By all appearances, neither is Alvarez willing to let go of this any soon. However, rather than the petty beef, he’s willing to focus on his match for now.
