Mexican boxing sensation Canelo Alvarez is arguably one of the top boxers in the world of boxing. However, Alvarez is often criticized for picking up opponents as he wishes. The Mexican boxer has even been mocked for fighting Edgar Berlanga in his next boxing bout. However, Canelo Alvarez has finally spoken out to shed light on how picking and choosing opponents works.
In a recent video of MILLION DOLLAZ WORTH OF GAME, Alvarez sat down to discuss his upcoming fight against Edgar Berlanga with the hosts. Many beleive Berlanga doesn’t pose any threat to the Mexican boxing superstar. As such, the interviewer questioned Canelo about his opinions on fighting order in professional boxing.

Interestingly, unlike amateur boxing, professional boxing does not follow such orders. Per Canelo, he believes that the superstars make the championships, not the championship makes them. This eventually concludes the process of matchmaking in pro boxing.
The Mexican boxer also implied that boxing legends like Oscar De La Hoya and Floyd Mayweather also did the same. Interestingly, when it came to Canelo Alvarez, the gold medalist mocked him for picking up Berlanga as his opponent. Although the Golden Boy boss and Alvarez don’t share a good bond between them, they still once ruled as a team.
The Golden Boy Promotions signed Canelo Alvarez back in 2010. The Mexican boxing sensation made outstanding leaps in his career since then. However, after a decade-long association, both Alvarez and De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions parted ways with each other. Interestingly, the Mexican boxer has given a brief comparison between his ex-promoters and current promoters.

Canelo Alvarez left Golden Boy Promotions on a bad note. As such, the Mexican boxer had to file a lawsuit against De La Hoya’s company, citing a breach of his $365 million fight contract signed in 2018. Since that ugly breakup, both have leveled several accusations against each other, adding further fuel to their long-running feud.
Although De La Hoya and Canelo had a bad end to their partnership, their success together is still fresh in the community. Following that, Alvarez joined with Eddie Hearn and now with Al Haymon’s PBC and has two victories representing the promotion. Recently, Canelo talked about his promoters. He feels that PBC would have done a better job during his early career as compared to Golden Boy.
I think I would of done way better with PBC. I did good things with Golden Boy.. But I would have been better with PBC. I like to work with everybody, but right now I'm working with PBC. I'm glad to do business with Al Haymon.Canelo Alvarez via MILLION DOLLAZ WORTH OF GAME
As of now, Canelo is already two fights into his three-fight deal with the PBC. His upcoming fight with Edgar Berlanga on September 14 will make it his third fight under the PBC banner. Now, it remains to be seen whether Alvarez will negotiate a new contract with his current promotion.
