Michael Owen has criticized a football coach for a tweet that he posted with respect to some distasteful comments on his 19-year-old daughter. His daughter, Gemma Owens is 19 years of age and is a contestant on Love Island. The football player’s 19-year-old daughter appeared on the UK TV show that involved single girls in bikinis looking for love in a Spanish villa. Her involvement has stirred up controversy due to Michael being her father.
Many have stated that she is ‘too young’ for the ITV reality show, and many have threatened to complain to Ofcom, the UK regulator for television shows after she kissed 27-year-old Davide Sanclimenti given their age gap. Her father has been there for her and has defended her at every juncture, he did not hold back this time either when a football coach made a distasteful comment about his daughter.

Gemma Owens’s appearance on the show prompted football coach Paul Proud, who claims to be an ex-professional football player to tweet, “Can’t wait to see her getting smashed,” along with laughing emojis and a thumbs up. Any father would be enraged seeing such comments about their daughter.
Owens was no different, he responded calmly by tweeting, “What a fine example to set from a man in your responsible position.” His fans also supported him by tweeting, “Don’t rise to it mate with even a reply, easier said than done I know. My daughter will be the same age in August.” The disturbing fact is that Proud is the coach for a U-18 girls’ football team.
After this tweet went viral, Proud deleted his Twitter account and also stated that he is no longer a football coach. He claims that he had ‘removed’ himself from the club despite the post being made ‘in jest’ and that it has been ‘taken out of context.’
Michael Owen has also admitted on multiple occasions that he was concerned about Gemma’s appearance on the show due to contestants being compelled to make out with one another. He admitted that he was shocked to see his eldest child share a bed with a man on her first night and told the Daily Mail that “No father wants to see physical contact, do they? I certainly don’t. If there is physical contact I think I’ll be throwing something at the screen. I don’t want to see kissing. Do not make me see kissing.”
