Carl Edwards reveals how NASCAR made him realize he “did not belong in a race car” in 2016
NASCAR Hall of Famer Carl Edwards shared his feelings about how the 2016 controversial Cup titles loss changed his life forever.

The 2016 NASCAR Cup season finale was one of the most controversial events of the sports story. The race saw, the then Joe Gibbs Racing driver Carl Edwards surviving all the odds with his might to come close to his maiden championship only to see a late race caution ruin his chances, deny9ing him a chance to make history.
This disappointment resulted in Carl Edwards announcing his retirements from the sport. With the Hall of Farmer set to return to the sport as a broadcaster, he shared via Dale Jr. download podcast, what made his retire. He highlighted that NASCAR threw caution to make racing more exciting at the instances and it hurt him the most.
I know NASCAR was throwing those cautions to make it more exciting. That’s a fact. I specifically talked to people about it. And that’s that. We’re all in the sport to entertain. They were trying their hardest at the time. But my point in saying all of that is that it was an outstanding set of circumstances.

The odd incidents according to him made him realize that racing world is not for him. He told Dale Earnhardt Jr. that that that day he got the message that he isn’t supposed to do racing with his life and doesn’t belong in a race car.
It was very odd. But now I realize it was the best thing in the world for me, and I was able to get the message that I did not belong in a race car. That’s not what I was supposed to be doing with my life.

Carl Edwards is thankful for the situation
The disappointment helped Carl Edwards to have a new perspective about life and a new pathway to spend rest of his life. So, he is thankful such a situation has happened and admitted that he wouldn’t have had the change in his life if everything that day played out in his favor.

Looking back, I’m so thankful for it. I mean, it changed my life at that moment in a way that I could never have understood how great it was. So, I know that’s a roundabout answer. It might be too much to swallow, but that’s the way I see it.

The situation also gave Edwards to find new passion like sailing and gave him time to explore the world as he always wanted. He also got enough time to spend with his wife Kate and his kids, see and help them grow up.

The legendary racer is set to make the perfect return to the sport as Prime’s NASCAR broadcaster alongside the likes of Corey LaJoie and Danielle Trotta. For someone who likes to speak a lot and the timing of the move makes it the perfect opportunity for him.

It’s all just perfect timing. For me, it’s obvious that I’m supposed to come back and be a part of this. I don’t know what it will turn into, but it feels good. I’m excited, it’s going to be fun … I couldn’t be more excited about it.
