Carla Suarez Navarro is a former World No.6 player who announced her retirement from the sport last year. Soon after announcing her retirement, the seven-time Grand Slam quarter-finalist was diagnosed with Hodgkin Lymphoma.

During her playing days, Navarro has attained a career-high ranking of World No.6 besides claiming two WTA titles. The Spaniard was quite active on the doubles tour as well; claiming three titles on the WTA tour and attaining a career-high rank of World No.11.

It’d be a dream come true for Navarro to bid adieu to tennis at the 2021 Olympic Games

The Spaniard told BBC World Service that, “I don’t want people to remember me in a hospital bed, so I’d like to go again into a big tournament. It would be a dream to do that – an Olympic Games to say bye to my tennis family and also all my tennis fans.”

Gradually recovering from her chemotherapy sessions, the former World No.6 said that although it makes her nervous; she would be highly grateful to get to play on the court again.

“I’ll feel so much joy and happiness when that moment comes. I’ll be very thankful and a little bit nervous to be on the court again,” she said.

The 32-year-old could potentially team up with fellow Spaniard and former Fed Cup teammate, Garbine Muguruza, in Tokyo if Suarez Navarro recovers in time.
