There has been a lot of water that is still passing under the bridge of this year’s Ballon d’Or, which was won by Manchester City’s Rodri. Shots have been fired from both ends as the rivalry continues to unspool and take greater heights. The latest of the jabs came from Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti, who said that his Ballon d’Or was won on a different day.
Real Madrid was entrenched with the belief that their Brazilian marksman Vinicius Jr. was clearly the favourite to bag the Ballon d’Or. Such was the conviction that they had parties planned as reported by City Xtra. However, when Rodri’s name was called, the vitriol was quite palpable, and despite the fact that the dust was cleared in most quarters, Carlo Ancelotti still had a bit of salt that he wanted to pour over.

When the eventual winner of the Ballon d’Or, Rodri, was asked about Real Madrid’s absence from the event, the City midfielder made it clear that he respected their decision. He wanted to focus on his teammates and the people who were present to celebrate his achievement and congratulate him. Rodri also found a corner of support in Manchester United legend Gary Neville, who underlined that the attitude from Real Madrid could have been very different.
Here is what Carlo Ancelotti had to say about Vinicius Jr’s sadness post Ballon d’Or
In the meantime, when the reporters asked Carlo Ancelotti about the current mood of Vinicius Jr., the Italian gaffer said that he is certainly sad, but not because of the Ballon d’Or snub. Ancelotti underlined that the Brazilian striker was sad because of the flood catastrophe that has consumed more than 200 lives in Valencia. Ancelotti pointed out that football is a celebration, and it cannot happen when such a tragedy is rolling in Spain.
He also urged the authorities to stall the game in wake of the cataclysmic happening that has rocked Valencia and left a boatload of tragedy in its wake. Ancelotti also stated that the coaches have no power over the situation or Mother Nature herself.
They could only hope that the game is stopped unless the situation returns to normal. Real Madrid’s next clash in the La Liga will be against Osasuna on 9th November.
