Nadal lost to the Czech Republic’s Jiri Lehecka in the fourth round with a scoreline of 7-5, 6-4. The 37-year-old started his campaign with an easy 6-1, 6-0 victory over America’s Darwin Blanch, and later in the second round, avenged his Barcelona Open defeat by knocking out Alex de Minaur in straight sets.

After overcoming Pedro Cachin in three sets, Nadal’s campaign ended in what seemed to have been his last Madrid Open.

Carlos Alcaraz dreams of playing Olympic doubles with Rafael Nadal

The tennis tournament at the Paris Olympics will start on July 27. The matches will be played at the Roland Garros where Nadal won a record 14 Grand Slam titles.

Carlos Alcaraz, who was on the verge of losing to Jan-Lennard Struff in the fourth round, reached his back-to-back Madrid Open quarterfinals with a thumping win over the German 6-3, 6-7(5-7), 7-6(7-4). After his victory, Alcaraz revealed he had discussed teaming up with Rafael Nadal for the Paris Olympics.

If everything goes to plan, as I have already said, we will play the doubles together at the Olympics. But there is a long way to go till it gets underway. We have said how wonderful it would be to play a tournament before the Olympics.
Carlos Alcaraz said at the press conference

However, the only problem is Nadal’s form. He has been dealing with multiple injuries since last year’s Australian Open. The hip flexor injury during the Australian Open last year kept him out of tennis courts for 11 months and the injury he suffered in this year’s Brisbane International made him a few months of tennis.
