Carlos Alcaraz has had a successful 2025 season. The Spaniard won his fifth Grand Slam title at Roland Garros in June before landing a spot in his third Wimbledon final.
Despite the success, there are always critics who want more from the former World No.1. However, Alcaraz claims that he has learnt to deal with the pressure of the expectations. Alcaraz said in Gazzetta dello Sport:
In tennis, everything is based on mentality. When I’m on the court, I try not to think about anything else but playing a sport that I enjoy. Being a tennis player was always my dream. I think that makes it easier to deal with pressure; I just focus on the game. There was a time when criticisms affected me quite a bit, but now I have learned not to give them too much importance. I have learned that you learn from defeats, that every step counts. The important thing is to be consistent and strive to improve.
Alcaraz has won five ATP titles so far this year, the most out of anyone on the tour. He is the only player to win titles across all surfaces.
In the second half of the season, he has a great chance to catch up with Jannik Sinner in the ATP Rankings. He has next to no points to defend for the rest of the season with his main defense of points coming at the China Open after the US Open.
Carlos Alcaraz withdraws from Canadian Open
The 2025 Canadian Open has suffered another major setback with reports that Carlos Alcaraz will not take part in the tournament. This makes him the fourth high-profile player to withdraw ahead of the event. Jannik Sinner, Novak Djokovic, and Jack Draper had already confirmed their absence earlier.

Alcaraz, ranked world No. 2, recently lost to Jannik Sinner in the Wimbledon final. That defeat ended his impressive 24-match winning streak. According to reports from Marca, the Spaniard has decided to skip the Canadian Open, scheduled to run from July 27 to August 7 in Toronto.
This will be the second consecutive year Alcaraz misses the Canadian Masters. In 2024, he skipped the tournament in Montreal following the Olympic Games in Paris. Former player and analyst Alex Corretja had advised Alcaraz to rest and not compete in Canada this year.
With the withdrawals of Sinner, Djokovic, Alcaraz, and Draper, the top seeds in Toronto will now shift. Alexander Zverev, Taylor Fritz, Lorenzo Musetti, and Ben Shelton are set to lead the field as the highest-ranked players left in the draw.
Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner to headline Cincinnati Open
After their recent Wimbledon clash, Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz are set to return at the Cincinnati Open in the United States. The ATP Masters 1000 tournament will take place from August 7 to 18, 2025. Sinner defeated Alcaraz in four sets in the Wimbledon final, improving his head-to-head record against the Spaniard to 5-8.

Sinner comes into Cincinnati as the defending champion. In 2024, he claimed the title with a straight-sets win over Frances Tiafoe. Alcaraz, meanwhile, is still searching for his first Cincinnati trophy. He narrowly missed out in 2023, failing to convert a match point in the final against Novak Djokovic.
Both Sinner and Alcaraz will be the top seeds in the 2025 Cincinnati draw. They’ve met in the final of the last three tournaments they’ve both entered—Wimbledon, Roland Garros, and Rome—highlighting their growing rivalry at the top of the men’s game.
Alcaraz holds a 48-6 win-loss record this season, while Sinner sits at 26-3. They remain close contenders for the ATP Year-End No. 1 ranking. Alcaraz has previously won Masters titles in Miami and Indian Wells, while Sinner has triumphed in Miami, Toronto, and Cincinnati. A win in Indian Wells would complete Sinner’s sweep of the North American Masters 1000 events.
