Four-time Grand Slam champion Carlos Alcaraz has assured the tennis community that his doubles partner, Rafael Nadal, will be at 100% when they make their debut in doubles on Saturday. The duo will be facing Argentina’s Andres Molteni and Maximo Gonzalez.
Alcaraz gave an interview to the tennis newspaper CLAY Tennis, where he discussed Nadal’s condition ahead of their first-round doubles match.
The guy is fine, he’s at his best. He’s always fine, like always!Carlos Alcaraz said in an interview to CLAY
There were rumors that Nadal might consider pulling out of the singles to focus on doubles earlier today. At the age of 38, playing both singles and doubles on the same day can be extremely tough. However, the situation will be much clearer once Nadal gets through the first day of his schedule.
Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic projected to face each other in the second round of the Paris Olympics
Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic are extremely likely to face each other at the Paris Olympics. According to the draws made on Thursday, the two tennis legends could square off in the second round if both win their opening matches.
Nadal is projected to play against Hungary’s Marton Fucsovics, while Djokovic will start his bid for a first Olympic gold against Australia’s Matthew Ebden. The duo previously faced each other at the Beijing Olympics in 2008, where the Spaniard emerged victorious en route to his singles gold medal.
Nadal and Djokovic have met ten times at Roland Garros, with the left-hander holding an 8-2 record. Surprisingly, their last four meetings have all been on clay, with three of those occurring in the French capital.
Their most recent encounter was at the 2022 Roland Garros quarterfinal, where Nadal defeated Djokovic in four sets on his way to claiming his 14th French Open title. However, both players are struggling with physical issues on their road to this year’s Olympic Games. Djokovic is recovering from a meniscus tear he sustained at this year’s French Open, while Nadal is still not at his maximum level, despite reaching the final last week in Bastad.
