Carlos Alcaraz has had a pretty exciting run so far at his debut Rotterdam Open campaign. The World No. 3 defeated Botic van de Zandschulp, Andrea Vavassori, Pedro Martinez, and Hubert Hurkacz on his way to his first indoor finals.
No Spanish player has ever been crowned winner in Rotterdam’s history, so Alcaraz faces the upcoming final with more motivation. In the finals, he will face World No. 8 Alex de Minaur, who, along with Alcaraz, is also aiming for his first indoor title.
It’s my first indoor final, something special because there has been a lot of talk about my performances on these types of courts, so tomorrow is a good opportunity to show that I can indeed play well in these conditions.
Carlos Alcaraz said ahead of the game (H/T: Punto De Break)
Carlos Alcaraz and Alex de Minaur have faced each other twice before, with the Spaniard leading their head-to-head 2-0. However, their upcoming match will be the first time both will face each other on hard court.
Alex de Minaur has also had a pretty remarkable run at Rotterdam so far, reaching the finals without dropping a set en route. The Australian had faced David Goffin, Jakub Mensik, Daniel Altmaier, and Mattia Bellucci in the prior rounds of the tournament.
Carlos Alcaraz’s interesting journey at the 2025 Rotterdam Open
When Carlos Alcaraz arrived in Rotterdam, he had a cold that kept him at a very low level during many moments of his first round. He had a hard-fought victory against Dutch wildcard Botic van de Zandschulp, avenging his second round defeat by the Dutchman at the 2024 US Open. His first round match saw the 21-year-old make many unforced errors, although he later gained momentum and won the match.

The most exciting part of Alcaraz’s journey and perhaps also the most exciting moment from the tournament as well was in his second round match against Andrea Vavassori, where he produced a dazzling behind-the-back shot followed by a backhand winner in the second game.
Speaking about his health, Alcaraz mentioned that even though he is feeling much better now, he is still not at 100%. He was also asked about the strip on his nose and if it had any superstitious element, to which he confessed that it helped him breathe, but would go on to wear the same until the tournament ends.
