Carlos Alcaraz has become a cynosure of all eyes thanks to his clinching trophies one after the other. Alcaraz on Wednesday (October 2) beat Jannik Sinner after battling it out for over three hours to win his first title at the China Open. Compatriot Paula Badosa was among many who heaped praise on the youngster after his victory.

Badosa is also in Beijing for the penultimate WTA 1000 event of the season. She defeated Zhang Shuai in straight sets, after which she said she had rooted for Alcaraz during the men’s final and called the 21-year-old an inspiration.

I’m inspired by Carlos. He’s great, on and off the court. He’s an amazing person, he’s an amazing player. I watched the whole match yesterday. I was cheering for him. He makes all the country proud and, honestly, I’m a big fan of his.

Paula Badosa said during her in-court interview

Badosa will be up against Coco Gauff in the semifinals, scheduled to take place on Friday (October 4). The World No. 19 has met the American five times and leads the head-to-head record 3-2. They last met in the fourth round of the 2024 Rome Open, which Gauff won in three sets.

Patrick Mouratoglou feels Carlos Alcaraz is struggling with mental exhaustion

Renowned coach Patrick Mouratoglou thinks Carlos Alcaraz has been suffering from physical as well as mental exhaustion. Alcaraz, who had been complaining about a tight tennis schedule, even saying that “they are going to kill us in some way” once again remarked on how he had to rush to catch his plane for Shanghai for the ATP 1000 Masters event right after China Open win.

‘The ATP is going to kill us’. That’s what he said. Now, Carlos Alcaraz is explaining in his interview that there are too many tournaments. It’s too tough on the body. I understand why he says this, especially this year because he was crazy busy. He won back-to-back RG, Wimbledon and the final of the Olympic games, which is crazy. Not only physically but mentally.

Patrick Mouratoglou said on Instagram

The four-time Major winner landed in Shanghai less than 24 hours after the China Open final and his match is scheduled on Friday (October 4) against home favorite Shang Juncheng. It will be Alcaraz’s second encounter with Juncheng on the ATP Tour, having previously met in the Round of 32 of the 2024 Australian Open, where Alcaraz received a walkover.

Last year in Shanghai, Alcaraz made it to the quarterfinals where Grigor Dimitrov defeated him in three sets. He has won four ATP titles and the silver medal at the Paris Olympics this year.
