Carlos Alcaraz is a man of smiles. The Spanish tennis star has developed a reputation for being one of the classiest and humblest players on the ATP Tour. However, things went on a rough slide in the past few hours.

During one of his practice sessions, Alcaraz clashed with the fans for bringing cameras into his practice sessions. There have been debates recently about microphones being involved in practice sessions, which can leak out information to the opponents regarding strategies.

Regardless of that, Alcaraz would be hoping to put these things to one side and try to regain the US Open title that he won in 2022. The Spaniard is coming into the tournament having won his first Cincinnati Open title.

Alcaraz is bidding to win his sixth Grand Slam title and the second of the season. His earlier Grand Slam success came at Roland Garros, where he defeated Jannik Sinner in one of the greatest Grand Slam finals of all time.

Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner become highest paid players of 2025

Player earnings are always a hot topic among tennis fans. A recent Forbes report revealed the highest-paid players of the past year. Italy’s Jannik Sinner and Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz not only topped the on-court earnings list but also dominated men’s tennis over the last 21 months. Between them, they won the last seven Grand Slam titles, with Sinner taking four and Alcaraz three.

Their rivalry has defined the season. At the French Open, Alcaraz staged a dramatic comeback against Sinner, saving three match points and winning a five-set marathon that lasted over five hours. It became the second-longest Grand Slam final in history. They clashed again at Wimbledon, where Sinner avenged his Paris loss with a four-set victory.

In terms of earnings, Sinner led with $20.3 million from tournaments, but Alcaraz topped the overall chart thanks to $35 million in endorsements, taking his total to over $48 million. Sinner followed closely with $47.3 million, boosted by $27 million in sponsorships. Coco Gauff ranked third at $37.2 million, becoming the highest-earning woman in tennis. Her French Open title against Aryna Sabalenka was the highlight of her season.

Novak Djokovic, despite winning only the Geneva Open in 2024, earned $29.6 million and placed fourth. Sabalenka followed with $27.4 million. Rising star Qinwen Zheng surprised many by earning $26.1 million, mostly from endorsements. Wimbledon champion Iga Swiatek was next at $24 million. Taylor Fritz closed the list at $15.6 million, making him the top-earning American man.

Carlos Alcaraz faces tough US Open draw

World No.2 Carlos Alcaraz arrives at the US Open fresh from his Cincinnati Masters win, but the challenge ahead is far greater. The 22-year-old Spaniard is chasing his second title in New York, though the draw has not been kind to him. His path is packed with tough opponents, making the journey to the final anything but simple.

Alcaraz opens against Reilly Opelka, a dangerous first-round matchup. If he advances, the difficulty only increases with Daniil Medvedev likely in round four. A potential quarterfinal against Ben Shelton or Casper Ruud adds more danger. Should he reach the final, a clash with Novak Djokovic or last year’s runner-up Taylor Fritz could await. The road is arguably one of the toughest in the tournament.

The dominance of Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner has reshaped men’s tennis, with the two young stars sharing the last seven Grand Slam titles. Djokovic remains the only other man to win a major since Nadal’s farewell at Roland Garros in 2022. This season, Alcaraz has collected three Masters 1000 trophies and leads Sinner in the race to Turin, underlining his consistency.

Still, the US Open draw offers little breathing room. Beyond Opelka, Alcaraz could meet hungry youngsters like Shang Juncheng or Mattia Bellucci, while Luciano Darderi has quietly become a rising threat.

Medvedev’s presence looms as the biggest danger before a possible blockbuster quarterfinal with Shelton. Sinner, meanwhile, faces his own hurdles with Vit Kopriva, Denis Shapovalov, Tommy Paul, and Jack Draper all standing in his way. A semifinal showdown with Djokovic remains the most anticipated clash of the fortnight.
