Carlos Alcaraz beat Tommy Paul on Thursday (August 1) to reach the semifinals of the 2024 Paris Olympics. The Spaniard continued his fine form on clay as he steamrolled past yet another opponent in straight sets.
Both Alcaraz and Paul have been putting their bodies to the test every day by playing both singles and doubles. Despite this, they gave it their all and entertained the fans with their tennis in their quarterfinal clash.
Paul started this match with an early break but soon lost his lead as Alcaraz grew into the match. The American struggled to find ways to beat the 21-year-old and lost the first set 6-3. The second set also started similarly, with Paul getting the first break of the set.
He took a 3-0 lead before Alcaraz fought back and took the match into a tie-break. There, he put in a strong performance to seal the match 6-3, 7-6(7). With this, Alcaraz became the youngest player to reach the semifinals at the Olympics since Novak Djokovic at Beijing 2008.
