World No. 3 Carlos Alcaraz continues to advance rounds in his maiden Rotterdam Open campaign, getting closer to potentially clinching his first title on indoor hard court. In the post-match press conference after winning his second round match at the Rotterdam Open 2025, Alcaraz spoke about his game, his opponent, and the importance of his team, whom he considers his family.

Carlos Alcaraz’s coaching team is led by head coach Juan Carlos Ferrero, a former World No. 1 and French Open champion who has been instrumental in Alcaraz’s journey since 2019. In December 2024, Samuel Lopez, who previously coached Pablo Carreno Busta, joined Alcaraz’s team to provide additional coaching expertise. The 21-year-old has often spoken about how much he trusts his team and how well they understand him.

I believe the work they are doing behind the scenes is very important for me. As I have said many times, the more comfortable I feel off the court, the better I perform on it. Having my team with me, they are my family, so it is very important to create that good environment off the court.

In the second round match, Carlos Alcaraz put on a show to ease past Italian qualifier Andrea Vavassori with a score of 6-2, 6-1. Perhaps the highlight of this tournament so far has been Alcaraz’s sensational behind-the-back shot followed by a backhand winner in the second game before motoring to a 63-minute victory to reach his fourth indoor quarterfinal.

After a tough start at Australian Open, Carlos Alcaraz will look to go all the way at Rotterdam

Carlos Alcaraz commenced his 2025 season with the Australian Open, where he was eyeing to be the youngest man to complete the career Grand Slam. He had a fairly good performance, making it to his second Australian Open quarterfinal, where he faced Novak Djokovic. While they both had an exciting and competitive match, with Alcaraz clinching the first set, it was the 37-year-old injury-marred Serbian who interestingly outplayed him and advanced to the semifinals.

After the Australian Open, Alcaraz moved on to his next tournament of the year at the ABN AMRO Open in Rotterdam, Netherlands. He avenged his early exit at the 2024 US Open with a hard-fought victory over Dutch wildcard Botic van de Zandschulp in the first round of this tournament.

Firstly, in terms of language, it is much better for us to communicate. Honestly, it’s not something that bothers me either. For now, it is like this, in the future, probably… we will see, but right now the team is fine like this.
