Carlos Alcaraz claimed his fourth Grand Slam title after a commanding victory over Novak Djokovic in the 2024 Wimbledon Championships final. Having won the French Open a month ago, he entered the SW19 as both the defending champion and the title favorite.

The Spaniard faced many hiccups en route to the final but stood strong and crossed all hurdles. He then took on Djokovic in the title match at SW19 for the second year in a row. From the get-go, Alcaraz brought out his A-game and gave the Serbian little room to find his rhythm. In the end, he registered a pretty emphatic 6-2, 6-2, 7-6(4) win.

After last year’s jaw-dropping final saw a five-set thriller, fans expected nothing less this year. Unfortunately, Alcaraz was locked in from the start and did not waste any time to assert his dominance and take control of the proceedings. Although he faced a little difficulty converting a handful of championship points in the end, he managed to stay strong and finish the contest in the third set tie-break.

This is the 21-year-old’s second Grand Slam title of the year. He is now only the sixth player to win the Wimbledon and Roland Garros in the same season, after Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Djokovic, Bjorn Borg, and Rod Laver.

  • He is the third-youngest player (21 years and 70 days) in the Open Era to win the men’s singles title at Wimbledon in back-to-back editions, after Boris Becker (18 years and 227 days) and Borg (21 years and 26 days).

Alaraz was understandably speechless after the win. He expressed his delight at living his childhood dream and thanked his team for helping him in his pursuit of glory. Besides the win, the Spaniard was visibly embarrassed when the prospect of dancing with the women’s singles champion Barbora Krejcikova at the champions’ ball was brought up.
