2024 Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz revealed to the Spanish outlet Marca, his feeling after winning the championship point against Novak Djokovic on Sunday (July 14th). After a fortnight of struggle, the Spaniard played a 2023 Wimbledon Final rematch against Djokovic to defend his title.
From the very first point, Alcaraz was on top of the Serbian. With an improved serve and mighty forehand, the 21-year-old kept Djokovic under pressure, winning the match in straight sets. After two easy set wins, Djokovic started to make a comeback, but it was too late.
By the time the Serbian started to find something in the match, his opponent was on championship points. Having failed to secure three earlier, Alcaraz finally won the ultimate point in the tie-break, winning the match 6-2, 6-2, 7-6(4).
In the interview with Marca, the Spaniard revealed his feelings after winning the championship point. He stated that he felt relief and satisfaction from a successful title defense after everything that he had dealt with in the previous months.
Above all, relief at the last moment of the match, having won it and having them come back. In the end, winning it in the tie-break relieved me. Likewise, I felt satisfaction for everything I've been through taking care of my body, with all the little things I've been dealing with, and for all the work we've put in these four weeks here.Carlos Alcaraz said
It was a sweet victory for Alcaraz, who broke multiple milestones after his fourth Grand Slam win. Having won two Grand Slam titles on the troth this year, Alcaraz is expected to do wonders in the upcoming Paris Olympics.
Carlos Alcaraz unsure about his future in the sport
After a massive win at the 2024 Wimbledon final, Carlos Alcaraz joined an elite group of players to have won both the French Open and Wimbledon in the same year. Alcaraz is the youngest player to do so. With this win, he is now one-sixth of the way to matching Novak Djokovic’s record of 24 singles Grand Slam titles.
When asked about his future, Alcaraz revealed that he is unsure about it but is ready to fight and give it his all, irrespective of what happens. Furthermore, he confessed that he is going on the right path and can achieve greater things if the same routine is continued.
I don't know what the future holds for me. In the end, the future is uncertain and anything can happen in a few years. Things can turn in many directions, one way or the other. We can't take anything for granted.Carlos Alcaraz added
With the US Open coming up next, Alcaraz is a strong favorite, having won it a couple of years back. Should Alcaraz win the US Open, he will join an elite group of players in the Open Era to have won three Grand Slam titles in one year.
