The Australian Open has witnessed the trio of teenagers Joao Fonseca, Jakub Mensik, and Learner Tien, who shocked the tennis world with their display on the court. The stars began from the qualifiers of the Grand Slam tournament, and two of them are in the third round already. Carlos Alcaraz was asked during his press conference to give them advice, which he did hilariously.

Fonseca, who’s just 18 years old made his mark in the first round after beating Andrey Rublev in straight sets in Melbourne Park. In fact, the Brazilian teenager was hailed by Novak Djokovic and Alcaraz for earning his first win over a top 10 opponent in his career. Mensik followed suit with a second-round win over Casper Ruud in four sets.

The victory over the World No.6 was the biggest in his career. American 19-year-old Tien made history in the early hours of Friday (January 17) in Melbourne after stunning Daniil Medvedev in five sets in the second round. He is the only player among the trio of teenagers remaining in the Australian Open draw, as Fonseca exited in the first round while Mensik lost Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the third round on Friday.

During Alcaraz’s press conference, he was asked to give advice to the trio of teenagers. The Spaniard hilariously revealed that the first advice will be that they don’t beat him.

I watched these players. I saw the level they have. I watched Tien less but I have to say that I was a little surprised by his level. I don’t know what ranking they will reach, they will get, but they have a lot of potential. But I speak as if I were 30 years old when I am only two years older than them (smile). What advice could I give them? First of all, they don’t beat me (laughs). Now I want to say that depending on the experience they will acquire, they will quickly know how far they can go.

Through to the fourth round of the Australian Open, it was the second time in his four appearances at the competition he will reach this stage. He revealed during his on-court interview that he always tries to play his best tennis.

I tried to show my best tennis here. For me, it has been a pleasure every time that I step on this court… The last time that I played here I lost [to Alexander Zverev in the 2024 quarter-finals], so I really wanted to play here and get another win here in Rod Laver.

Alcaraz will face either Jack Draper or Aleksandar Vukic in the fourth round of the Australian Open. Beyond that, he could face Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinals if both players get to that stage.
