Spanish tennis ace Carlos Alcaraz came into the 2024 Laver Cup after a disappointing outing at the US Open where he suffered a second-round exit. However, the 21-year-old did not let his below-par performance in New York affect his form at the Laver Cup. Rather, Alcaraz sealed the title for Team Europe with an emphatic win against Taylor Fritz in the final match on Day 3.
Bjorn Borg’s team started the third day with the scoreline reading 4-8. Carlos Alcaraz paired up with Casper Ruud to take the first win of the day and earn three crucial points. However, Daniil Medvedev‘s defeat to Ben Shelton changed things slightly as the last two matches became a do-and-die for Team Europe.
Fortunately for them, Alexander Zverev defeated Frances Tiafoe to keep Team Europe in the hunt. Alcaraz took on Taylor Fritz in the final match and barely made a mistake, defeating the American 6-2, 7-5 in an hour and 29 minutes.
With this, Alcaraz helped Team Europe to victory and also won his first Laver Cup. The Spaniard hailed this win over Fritz as one of his best in recent times and hoped that he would continue to play like this for the rest of the season.
I hope to be able to play the rest of the year like I did against Fritz. I think it was one of my best matches in recent times. I want to continue in this line of aggressive tennis, going to the net and being the only one who dictates the rhythm of the match.Carlos Alcaraz said after his win over Taylor Fritz.
Alcaraz was as clinical as it could get, breaking Fritz’s serve twice in each set en route to a 90-minute triumph at Uber Arena. After he sent down an unreturnable serve on match point, Alcaraz’s teammates swept onto the court to celebrate with him and captain Bjorn Borg.

After the win, Carlos Alcaraz also talked about his struggles with consistency during the North American hard court swing. The Spaniard said that while he struggled to find his level back then, he felt good to go once again.
I had some difficult moments on the American circuit because I did not find my level or the necessary consistency, but now I feel good to fight for the beautiful and exciting objectives that remain in the seasonCarlos Alcaraz said in his on-court interview
Alcaraz will most probably play at the Shanghai Masters next. The Roland Garros and Wimbledon champion suffered a fourth-round exit from the ATP 1000 event last year.
