Carlos Alcaraz defended his Wimbledon title with a commanding straight-sets win against Novak Djokovic. He was excellent with his shot selection and ball timing, putting the Serbian on the back foot from the get-go.
Alcaraz got a break in the first game of the match and built on that valuable lead. He won two sets with ease to inch closer to victory. However, Djokovic fought back in the third set and even saved three championship points. However, it only delayed the inevitable as the Spaniard came through the tiebreak to win the final 6-2, 6-2, 7-6(4). With that, Alcaraz won his second consecutive Wimbledon title and fourth career Grand Slam.

After the match, Alcaraz said that Djokovic made a bad start and he made the most of that. He expressed delight in his achievement and hoped to build on it and etch his name alongside the legends of the sport.
It was a really tough start of the match for him and I made the most of that. Four Grand Slams, two Wimbledons, I’m not gonna lie, it’s a great achievement, to realise the things that I’m doing. But I want to keep going, building a good journey, and hopefully one day I can stay close to those champions.
Carlos Alcaraz told ESPN
Alcaraz is the just second man in the Open Era to win his first four Grand Slam finals, after Roger Federer. He is also just the sixth man in the Open Era to win both the French Open and Wimbledon titles in the same season, after Rod Laver, Bjorn Borg, Rafael Nadal, Federer, and Djokovic.
"It was a really tough start of the match for him and I made the most of that," Alcaraz told ESPN.

Adds that it wasn't his best ever match level-wise, but maybe in terms of handling all the emotions and nerves of playing Djokovic in a Wimbledon final. pic.twitter.com/OEdmujTefc
Carlos Alcaraz proud to follow in the footsteps of tennis legends
Carlos Alcaraz is now the youngest player to win both the French Open and the Wimbledon titles in the same year. Last month, the Spaniard returned from a forearm injury to win his first Grand Slam on clay.

When reminded about the significance of his Wimbledon 2024 win, Alcaraz stated that he was very proud to see his name alongside the greats of the game like Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic. He said he while he doesn’t consider himself as good as any of them, he vowed to work hard to get close to their levels.
I think just fighting and believing. I don’t know. It’s huge for me to be part of those players who have achieved it in the same year. Really glad to be in the same table as Novak. Huge champions. I don’t consider myself a champion yet like them. I’ll try to keep building my path and journey. It’s a huge moment for me.
Carlos Alcaraz said in his on-court interview
The win also sees Alcaraz retain his No. 3 spot in the ATP rankings, with just Jannik Sinner and Djokovic ahead of him on the table. Alexander Zverev and Dannil Ledvedev round up the Top 5.
