Akin to his favorite team, Real Madrid, Carlos Alcaraz has also faced some tough challenges throughout the season and made a strong comeback. He had a disappointing Sunshine Swing before he bounced back in the clay season with a maiden Monte Carlo Masters title. With this triumph, he also overtook Alexander Zverev for World No. 2.

While Arsenal has never won the UEFA Champions League, they put up a historic performance at the Emirates Stadium against the 15-time champion Real Madrid in the first leg of the quarterfinals.

The defending champions faced a huge defeat to Arsenal, with midfielder Declan Rice scoring two stunning free kicks and Mikel Merino finishing off with a third goal. Carlo Ancelotti and his side were to dig deep into their storied history of comebacks to keep their European dream alive and overturn a three-goal deficit. However, they were beaten again by Arsenal at their own home.

Spanish tennis star Carlos Alcaraz is a big fan of Real Madrid, and he has often watched their matches in the stadium. In a pre-match press conference, the Los Blancos boss used the ATP World No. 2 as an inspiration for his side.

What we want to do is try to change our mindset and play a serious game. With our heads, our hearts, and our balls, as Alcaraz says.

This is a reference to Alcaraz’s grandfather’s saying- The 3 Cs. The 21-year-old also has this tattooed on his left arm. His other tattoos include his Grand Slam victories and his Netflix documentary release date, i.e., 23rd April 2025. Alcaraz recently tweeted a few emojis in response to Ancelotti’s words. He reacted with a brain and heart emoji followed by two egg emojis.

Carlos Alcaraz made a comeback in the clay season

Alcaraz entered the Indian Wells Open as the two-time defending champion and a strong favorite to defend the title this time as well. However, he was stunned by eventual champion Jack Draper in the semifinals.

His more shocking loss came at the Miami Open, where he faced an opening round exit after losing to David Goffin, marking his poorest performance of the season. Prior to the Miami Open, he had made it to the quarterfinals of every tournament he competed in during the season.

The victory at Monte Carlo, marks a second title for Carlos Alcaraz this season. The 21-year-old won his first title of the season at the Rotterdam Open, where he defeated Alex de Minaur in the finals. The Monte Carlo Masters title is his 18th ATP singles title and his 9th title on clay.

Carlos Alcaraz is a two-time champion in the Barcelona Open

Alcaraz is now playing in the Barcelona Open, a tournament where he has triumphed twice, in 2022 and 2023. He unfortunately had to withdraw in 2024 due to an arm injury. Alcaraz is slowly adapting to the clay surface and regaining his form despite various challenges, especially the extremely short time period he had between the Monte Carlo finals and his opening round match at Barcelona.
