Carlos Alcaraz, after a successful hard court season, begins his clay court campaign at the Mutua Madrid Open, marking his first appearance on clay this year.

Having withdrawn from the other two tournaments because of a right forearm injury, he also seemed unlikely to play in the Madrid tournament. Despite not being 100%, Alcaraz announced his participation at the Madrid Open and is starting as seed No. 2. With two titles already in his pocket, the Spaniard is looking to become the first player to win three consecutive titles in Madrid.

He stepped onto the court against Thiago Seyboth Wild in the first round. It was a rather easy match for Alcaraz, who had all the momentum on his side and won the match 6-3, 6-3. On account of this straight-set victory, he felt better than usual regarding physical health.

Today for me was the test of fire. I have not noticed any discomfort. I felt spectacular, and I landed some very good forehand shots for me. So, from now on, we are going to go up

Carlos Alcaraz takes on Jan-Lennard Struff in a 2023 Madrid Open Finals rematch

Carlos Alcaraz has gotten off to a great start at the Mutua Madrid Open. With a win against the Brazilian World No. 63, Alcaraz is into the round of 16. It was a great match, where the 20-year-old displayed a range of shots, winning 22 of the 28 first service points.

However, now the Spaniard moves on to the next round where he will face a familiar opponent, Jan-Lennard Struff. The two faced off each other at the 2023 Madrid Open finals, where the German put up a fight but failed to get the win.

Alcaraz, on the other hand, held up his ground last year, to finish off in style at the end. This time too, he would hope to do the same.

Hopefully it will be like last year's final. We know the player he is and the level he has. He will come out with great shots and an incredible serve.

Even with the reassurance, Alcaraz’s forearm will still be a huge doubt as the rounds progress, and if better, then the Spaniard can be an enormous threat to the rest of the candidates.
