- Carlos Alcaraz has withdrawn from the Madrid Open due to a serious wrist injury.
- He was seen in public with a bandaged arm, raising concerns about his participation in upcoming tournaments.
- Alcaraz's injury may impact his ability to defend 3,000 points at the Italian Open and Roland Garros.
Things have not been working for Carlos Alcaraz since the Sunshine Double events. Although he lifted the Australian Open and the Qatar Open by defeating Novak Djokovic and Arthur Fils, respectively, Daniil Medvedev knocked him out in the semifinals of the Indian Wells Masters, and later, Sebastian Korda beat him in the third round of the Miami Open.
He will not be playing the Madrid Open because of an injury he suffered in his right wrist. Alcaraz said the injury was a serious one while announcing his withdrawal from the Barcelona Open. And now, in his first public appearance in Alicante, he was seen wearing an arm cast.

Alcaraz will be missing the Madrid Open for the second consecutive time. He is a two-time champion in the tournament, lifting the title in 2022 and 2023. After her early-round exit in Miami, Alcaraz completed a training block on clay in Murcia and returned to the tour at the Monte-Carlo Masters.
He had 1,000 points to defend in The Principality, but he failed to do it because Jannik Sinner downed him in the final. This saw Alcaraz lose his No.1 ranking to the four-time Grand Slam champion.
The top position will continue to slip away from Alcaraz because of his Madrid Open withdrawal. His bandaged arm has sparked speculation of whether Alcaraz would be able to play the Italian Open and the French Open, where he has a combined 3,000 points to defend. Feliciano Lopez thinks Alcaraz’s injury will make it impossible for him to return to Rome.
I’ve had that injury myself. From what I’ve heard, it’s a very common injury in the world of tennis. I think his wrist tendon is a bit inflamed, I imagine, and I hope it’s not ruptured. Now it’s time to recover because it’s not a muscle strain from overuse, since he arrived tired from Monte Carlo, and something like this can happen to you. There are many small tendons in the wrist. I was out for about two months. I don’t know what his injury is like, the extent of it.
Feliciano Lopez said during his interview with Radioestadio Noche
Last year in Rome, Alcaraz defeated Sinner to win his first title in the tournament. He has so far clinched 11 singles titles out of the 26 titles on clay.
Carlos Alcaraz is unsure about his participation in Roland Garros
Carlos Alcaraz will be chasing a three-peat at Roland Garros. In the previous two seasons, he beat Alexander Zverev and Jannik Sinner, respectively. But now, his wrist injury has cast a doubt on his participation in the clay-court Major.

We’ll have to wait and see. The next test will be crucial, so we’re doing everything we can to make sure it goes well. After the test, we’ll see how the injury is and what steps to take next.
Carlos Alcaraz told reporters
Last year on the clay swing, the 22-year-old lifted titles in Monte Carlo, Rome, and Paris. In Barcelona, he finished as the runner-up, losing to Holger Rune. While Alcaraz will be chasing a three-peat in Paris, Jannik Sinner will be bidding to complete the Career Grand Slam.

Alcaraz completed the Career Grand Slam at this year’s Australian Open. He, in fact, became the youngest man to achieve the feat. In last year’s French Open, the Spaniard came from two sets down and saved three championship points in the fourth set to defend his title
The main draw of the Madrid Open is set to start on April 22. Casper Ruud will enter the tournament as the defending champion. Last year, he beat Jack Draper, who withdrew from the event this year.
